Old Friend Back In My Life

...And I am very happy! He contacted me via voicemail a month ago and gave me his number. I left two messages on his answering machine a week later. And he telephoned today! We had a lovely chat and are meeting up when lockdown is over.

    I am very happy now!

Any re-kindled friendships in your lives? I do think coronavirus has made people realize how fragile life is. Don't let your old friendships go. Definitely re-kindle what you thought you'd lost. It is so, so worth just telephoning people you thought you had forgotten.

That's fantastic news!!! I do think that lockdowns and social distancing have had an effect on people in this way — wanting to connect, not wanting to let more time pass by without connecting because our time is finite. I'm really happy for you!

        Thank you!

Having people in my life again is wonderful. I am reaching out to connect with many others. Life is short, you see, and I don't want to hold back the years.

The coronavirus has shown me that people are precious and that time is short. I have to make the most of now. Nick has helped me in that regard.

Having Nick back in my life is wonderful: he is a ray of sunshine. We are meeting up in a few weeks and he's going to treat me to lunch. I shall also be buying a pair of trainers with him. I can't buy trainers online, because I need to physically try them on in a shop. Shoes do come up different sizes in different shops: both online and IRL.

I also am regularly telephoning another close friend every week.

          Friends will be friends.

Having an old friend back in my life is an absolute joy. Their familiar presence brings back cherished memories and a sense of comfort. We can reminisce about the past and create new moments filled with laughter and love. Their return has reignited a spark of friendship, reminding me of the genuine connections that stand the test of time. Together again, we embrace the beauty of friendship and embark on new adventures.

Having an old friend back in your life can be super nourishing. It's comforting, familiar, and seeing how you two have both grown (but still have things in common) can be a great foundation for bonding when you re-connect. However, as someone who has bowed out of a couple of toxic friendships, I also know that returning to a bond that was familiar yet not the healthiest can be tempting but isn't always the best decision.

I reconnected with a couple of friends from a post-grad program after embarking on a sobriety journey - I previously didn't feel as close to them and we naturally grew apart, as I thought I needed my substance of choice (weed) as something in common with friends in my life. By eliminating that from the equation, I'm able to focus on other things and the qualities that make them really great friends.

On the other hand, while I miss the laughter and closeness of the friendships I intentionally ended, the relationships and think my life is better for it. For those reasons, when you're planning on reconnecting, I'd ask yourself the following questions:

Does this person respect my boundaries?
Are they good communicators or am I feeling ghosted/flaked on often?
Are they accountable and willing to take responsibility for their actions?
Do I feel like I can be completely honest with them?
Do they genuinely have my best interest at heart?

It's wonderful to hear about your rekindled friendship! Indeed, moments like these remind us of the value of connections and the joy they can bring into our lives. The pandemic has certainly prompted many of us to reflect on what truly matters, including the people who have been a part of our journey.

It's heartening to see you taking the initiative to reach out and nurture those relationships that may have faded into the background. Sometimes, a simple phone call or message can reignite a bond that was once cherished. These connections add richness to our lives and remind us of the beauty of human connection.

Life feels like a full circle! Back in 12th grade, we were all together, and now, after so many years, destiny has brought 4 of us friends together again in the same company. I am so happy and grateful for this moment. Time to celebrate and make new memories!
