I imagine one solution would be to have dinner with the other couple and casually ask "So, what have you been texting my boyfriend about all day today?"

If her man doesn't know, he sure will then! And it might come to a screeching halt.

Your man's willingness to engage her that way, however, will be for you to address with him...

So did the OP figure out what was going on? Sounds like a case of "emotional" cheating to me... Sigh. My bf did that to me too, texting, emailing, exchanging pictures, etc with an ex hookup ("she wasn't a gf.") Great, that makes me feel much better. I didn't find out until a year AFTER it happened though, or at least that's the last I know of it happening.

Been there, done that. If it were innocent, he would not get defensive.

          Again with the texts!

I just posted under the "is texting cheating" thread; I believe it is a form of emotional cheating, and, like you, don't understand why so many texts!! I have a dear friend who loves to text and it drives me nuts, but that is maybe 7 or so a day. This seems really excessive and I also agree with the post that anyone who is deleting texts has something to hide. I am dealing with this problem myself, and just don't understand why people are so surprised when their partners find out about this . Even if its innocent, it is an awful lot of energy spent on someone who is not their significant other.

When I became serious with my bf I ended any random friendships with single guys that were based on flirtation out of respect for our relationship. I expected bf to do the same - maybe I should have spelled it out because he did not, and we are still dealing with this issue four years later.

I've been reading through a lot of these threads having to do with trust and infidelity etc. I see an overwhelming theme that might have more to do with human nature and our continuing saga to suppress it. Humans usually want what they can't have, and when they have it, it is never enough, or they simply don't want it anymore. Afterall...fewer than 3% of mammals are monogamous. Now, certainly we are unique mammals as far as we know. We have self-awareness and the ability to put thought into our actions. How much of that thought though is controlled by instinct and genetic programming? Perhaps some people struggle overriding this proclivity for promiscuity, either because of social expectations, or some other unseen reasons. The social expectation that you grow up, fall in love, marry, and then have kids is ingrained in all of us from a young age, through parenting, media, and then ultimately peer influence.
I'm 26 though...so I basically know nothing. Just letting my mind ramble.

I don't think there's any actual evidence to suggest that humans by nature are promiscuous, like some other animals are. So I don't think that should even be brought up, because I've heard false information related to this used as excuses for cheating.

Also, people who post on this forum are not representative of the population as a whole.

If you were perfectly content with your partner, would you seek out forums and post for people's advice? Probably not.

Who has a perfectly content relationship? The only perfect relationship is one where one person makes more compromises than the other.
