I am taking ortho-cyclen as extended use(taking multiple packs in a row without stopping for a placebo week). My last pill pack ended(the active pills at least) last night and I had unprotected sex tonight am I still protected during this week of placebo pills? I know normally you will be, but I took 3 packs(9 weeks of active pills in a row--all on time) I just want to be sure my body wont get screwed up because of it.

Hey Amanda, why are you stopping nature? Just curious? It's not good for you I don't think, to keep your periods from happening.

But, if you continually are taking the pill, I can't see how you could be pregnant.

The period you have while taking birth control isn't "natural" to begin with. You're not ovulating so there's nothing for your body to shed. The bleeding during your placebo days is caused from your body not getting the hormones in the active pills. Also, you're telling your body every month exactly when to bleed. In effect, by taking birth control pills to begin with, you're stopping nature, whether or not you skip your placebos. It doesn't harm you to skip the "pill period" that comes when you take birth control pills. If you Google "pill period" you will find loads of information about it and you will see that it's pretty much agreed upon that having a period when on the pill is not necessary. If it was unsafe, I'd think that birth control pills like Lybrel and Seasonale/Seasonique would be pulled from the market. But, every woman is different, of course. Some would rather have a period, even if a "pill period" every month.
