Missed two pills in a row only because I threw up the second one?
I missed one pill on Saturday night because I didn't have them on me (was at a friend's house), so I thought, "Okay, no big deal, I'll take the next one at the normal time." I took the next one at the normal time, but I threw up three and a half hours later because I had stomach problems. I don't know if three and a half hours was enough time for the pill to absorb into my blood stream, so I'm not sure what to do tonight. Do I just take tonight's and tomorrow's pills together, and then take one a day again starting tomorrow? Or do I just keep on taking one a day? Or do I throw away the pack and start a new one as soon as I can (this is my last pack and the pharmacy will not give me a new pack until the time at which I'm supposed to be done with this one; weeks from now). I missed the first Saturday and the second Sunday pills. -
I would stick to taking just tonight's pill and go to a pharmacist and ask what you should do. Normally you are required to restart a pack if you have missed 3 pills in a row, 2 pills in a row you normally take 2 and then go back to taking 1 the next day. But ask the professional about it before taking random amounts of pills. There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy. -
To be safe, I would follow your birth control's instructions on what to do if you miss two pills in a row and use back up. I don't think you need to start a new pack - I've missed two pills in a row a few times and I've just followed the instructions on what to do, used back up for a week, and got back on track.
Here's a generic instructions on what to do if you miss two pills ,but double check with your package!
IF YOU MISS TWO PILLS IN A ROW, take 2 pills as soon as you remember and 2 pills the next day. EXAMPLE: If you forget pills on Monday and Tuesday, take 2 pills on Wednesday and 2 pills on Thursday to catch up. USE A BACK-UP METHOD until you start the next pack of pills.Comment

Thanks, guys. I ended up just taking the next pill in the pack that night. I'm still not happy about this...my boyfriend said he'd wear a condom, but "it wouldn't feel as good and we probably wouldn't do it as much". That makes me feel great. It's not like he has the pressure of having to remember to take a pill every night. And I'm usually really good about it. I'm not sure how long I should wait until everything goes into effect again...normally, it would be seven days, but because I threw up the second pill...I don't know. I'm thinking that at the end of my pack, when I finish the next one, is when everything should be okay again...but should I use a back-up for a couple of months after that, just in case? I really don't want to deal with a baby right now. I have a job, and when school starts again, I'll be busy with that...just gfdghdksjhdkfh. That's how I feel. :/Comment

He's coming home this Friday, but we're probably not going to do it until the following Monday because he'll be with family. Should we use a condom, or will I be fine as long he pulls out? It's been about a month since this happened, but I'm not sure what to do. Despite missing those two pills, my period came on time. I feel like they're effective again, but I don't want a baby...Last edited by pumpkinpieisgood; 08-06-2012, 03:42 PM.Comment

If it has been a month and you have been taking the pills properly since then you are back up to normal effectiveness. It is not miss a pill and everything is doom and gloom. Sometimes pills are missed, it only becomes a problem if you continuously mess up taking it.There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy.Comment

I'm just not sure about it because I didn't follow my pamphlet's instructions when it happened. When I missed the first pill, I took it again as soon as I could, and it absorbed into my bloodstream long before I threw up that night. I still feel like I missed two in a row because I threw up the second one, and even though you're supposed to take two after missing two, and then two the next day, that wasn't even possible because of the situation I was in. And when I say it's been a month since it's happened, that includes the non-hormone placebo pills which don't really do anything, so technically, I've only taken two and a half weeks worth of hormones after I messed up. But I have been on birth control since October, and my pamphlet says to wait 7 days before doing anything after you first start taking the pills. I even got my period on time, so maybe most of the pill absorbed before I threw up? I really just don't want to use condoms, but I feel like if I don't, I'm going to freak out until I get my period.Comment
