Effectiveness of Plan B
I'm new on here but I need some advice and everyone on here seems educated. Around 4 days ago I was drinking with a male friend of mine and one thing led to another and we ended up having sex twice. The stupid and irresponsible thing that occurred that we did not have any form of birth control. The first time he pulled out and did not ejaculate inside of me. The second time I know for sure he did because he told me. I took Plan B around 12 hours after the last time we had sex. I know it is supposed to prevent ovulation but at the time I think I was ovulating based on the amount of clear cervical fluid I was having. But today I started with the increased production clear cervical fluid and increased sex drive so I'm not sure if I ovulated today. I just wanted to ask if anyone knew if I was already ovulating or ovulated today what is the likely hood of Plan B failing? I know it was a stupid decision and I have to watch out for STI's but I'm just freaking out that I might get pregnant. -
The packaging should tell you exactly what the effectiveness of Plan B is, but if I remember correctly... if you took it within 24 hours of having unprotected sex the pill is about 90% effective in preventing pregnancy.
Do you chart your cycles, and do you know how long they typically last? Do you know around what day in your menstrual cycle you were, and if you should have been ovulating yet? Just as an AVERAGE.. A woman with a 28 day cycle will typically ovulate around Day 14 (with Day 1 being the first day of your period) on average.
Having more clear cervical fluid than "normal" is an indication that you were ovulating (or were going to soon), but it isn't a steadfast rule.. were you feeling any abdominal discomfort? That's another sign of ovulation. -
If taken within 48hrs plan B is the most effective way to stop pregnancy and it's pretty much guaranteed. It doesn't just stop ovulation it causes any released egg to not implant and often you will start bleeding with a week of taking it. Usually within a few days. Because it's rejecting the egg. It can completely mess up your periods for awhile in some people.Comment
