Stopped taking Birth Control after 12 days

Hi, this is my first post. I've been looking everywhere online for this topic but haven't found anything. I'm a little worried and wanted to see if anyone had any information on this.

I stopped taking my birth control pills (YASMIN) after 12 days, and also stopped having sex exactly when I stopped taking the pill. I now know that I should have finished the whole pack, but the reason why I didn't was because I lost it, and didn't think it was a big deal because I was also going to stop having sex that day because my bf was leaving town for a while.

5 days later I get my period but not full on. This lasted for about 2 days then stopped. Then 5 days later (now) I've started to spot again and I've had weird cramps.

I'm assuming that this is all happening because my hormones are all messed from stopping the pill so suddenly.

My question is can I be pregnant? I've had the symptoms (fatigue, nausea, and sensitivity and aversion to certain smells). I plan to take a pregnancy test soon (it will get here in a couple days) but meanwhile I really feel like I need to know something.

I didn't have sex after stopping the pill, but someone informed me that sperm can live inside of me for up to 5 days, so that's why I'm worried.

Thanks again for all the help.

If you were only having sex while you were on the pill, then you were protected from pregnancy, so long as you did not have sexual intercourse after you stopped taking your Yasmin.

Most likely the complications you're dealing with now have to do with your body working the hormones out of its system. This is very common for women who stop taking birth control. I had similar problems when I got off hormonal birth control myself.

You already know this, I'm sure, but it's really not a good idea to stop taking your pills. They're most effective when taken according to Dr.'s orders, and the back-and-forth of hormones can't be great on your body. Also, you aren't necessarily protected right away when you start the pill again. You have to wait.. and sometimes, well, opportunities arise and waiting just isn't in the cards. This is how a lot of women end up pregnant, "even though they're taking birth control."

Just an idea for ya! ...If you're not great at taking a pill (or you lose them like you did this time), take a look at other options, like the depo shot, nuvaring, etc, etc...

Thank you for this. It's just that I talked to a doctor friend of mine and she said that the sperm can live inside for up to 5 days. That's the part that scared me and prompted me to find out more about it.

Thank you again. You've been a great help.
