    Is yasmin really that bad?

a couple of years ago the commercials and lawsuits went around about yasmin, at which point my mother got paranoid and made me switch pills. I switched to alesse.

A short time after starting alesse (a couple of months), i gained about 10 pounds. (at least half of it in my tummy also).

I have tried other things like watching what i eat, simply eating less, eliminated pop almost entirely, and its not budging.

I am seriously considering asking to be switched back at my next visit.

I was on yasmin for years with no complications at all.

I urinate alot and read that yasmin contained a mild diuretic, but having been off of it for 2 years, i still urinate alot, and used to urinate alot before starting on the yasmin. so thats not even the cause of that.

i dont smoke at all or drink, and am under 35.

would it really be that bad?

the pill switch is really the only thing i can associate the weight gain to. i had changed nothing else in my lifestyle at all... that was the only thing.

I havent seen any media about lawsuits on it since a couple of years ago.

my doctor also told me that they must report all things that happen to anyone during trials. for example if someone started taking vitamin C and was diagnosed with cancer during that time, people would haev to begin to list cancer as a possible side effect for vitamin C. But, the much more likely scenario is that that person would have likely gotten the cancer anyway. the correlation does not mean causation. same goes for all drugs. (i know vitamin C isnt a "drug", it was just an example)

    any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I was on yasmin from early highschool through college, took a break to try an IUD, went make to yasmin for a few more years, and then got seasonique. My sister has been on it since 8th grade and she's now 26. Neither of us have had problems. It's one of the few bcp I can take and is always my fall back when my hormones go out of whack. It has the best effects against acne, cysts, dandruff, and some hormone related disorders but I couldn't pass up the 1 period every 3 months thing with seasonique and it works.

Hmm. seasonique has the same active ingredients as alesse it seems.

But, i am very glad to read that you had no problems on yasmin the first time, and also had no problems when going back on it. That was the other thing in my mind, that just because i was okay before, will that mean i am not likely to have complications for a second time around?

My doctor has me on (right now alesse) but taking active pills year round... she said that because of how theyre made now, they keep the uterine wall thin and its completely safe to skip entirely. I havent had any complicaitons doing this at all, and its been over 5 years ive been doing it this way. part with yasmin and part when switching to alesse. But continuous is amazing, no bleeding in years is amazing!! lol. i hae no fear of getting pregnant so i dont even need my period for relief like many women do. (being single will do that lol). Not to mention far less mood swings and such than when i was taking the weeks off. now im pretty stable mood-wise too! Its just great!!

But if i can switch to yasmin (or yaz i would probably go with, same lower estrogen amount im on now), and get back my body, things will be perfect!
