    Slynd

What experiences do you have with it? I'm the most worried about mood disruption. I tried birth control before and I felt terribly on Yasmin, couldn't last more than one day, it messed with my head very hard. I thibk I got a full blown anxiety attack, while normally I'm the opposite of anxious, I'm extremely emotionally stable (sometimes that's annoying too, I'm somewhat asocial) and very logical. I'm the most level headed person in the room when something dangerous happens, really, and I'm rarely afraid tbh. My doctor recommended me the mini pill and I took Cerazette for whole two weeks before I stopped due to some problem with blood circulation. It looked like blood clots, but I won't get to know that. My legs went numb. Maybe it was just swelling. Apparently Slynd doesn't cause swelling due to diuretic effects of drospirenone. It was suggested to me by my doctor.

But I had other side effects that I'm concerned about and I would want to stress those, the most mood issues. I had to take antidepressants while on it and I had trouble sleeping at night. So it's the trouble sleeping and feeling depressed, down. People report feeling angry on the mini pill, I felt pathologiaclly calm, to be honest, I couldn't get angry. Like on testosterone blockers that I took before. I hate this effect it makes me feel not like myself and it's hard to live when you're unassertive like that. I wonder if there is the same issue with Slynd compared to older mini pills? I worry that there is, because while the older ones had androgenic effects (which I haven't noticed personally at all), Slynd apparently is an effective "cure" for body and facial hair, so it's an antiandrogen (I'm putting it in quotations, because I don't consider it to be a problem or a disease to have body hair...).

I also had a problem with nausea, but apparently it tends to even out in time, right? The mood problems are far worse and tend to escalate with time instead of improving.

    That sounds scary.

I’ve had pretty strong reactions to birth control in the past. Depo Provera gave me terrible mood swings.

In addition to being under a doctor’s care, you might find it helpful to keep notes about your mood and enlist your partner or a close friend to help you monitor your mood.

I have never taken Slynd so hopefully someone on the forum has who can respond.

I had an experience similar to Wednesday's when I was prescribed Desogen years ago — I only took it for a couple weeks or so before I had to switch back to my regular OrthoNovum 777. (I cannot remember WHY I had to switch... I think at the time it was an insurance thing? But then we got "permission" for me to have my regular pills/OrthoNovum back.)

But with Desogen (which I am not sure if it was a mini-pill...? It's been a hot minute), my mood just... tanked. It was like INSTANT depression.

I did not have that experience with OrthoNovum — but I know that everyone reacts differently to hormonal birth control methods and sometimes, you just never know how you're going to react until you try it. It's very hit-or-miss, that way.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how Slynd affects mood and I'm hoping that someone on the forums has taken it and can share their experience.

Has your doctor suggested any non-hormonal birth control options? (Like the Ring, maybe?)

Yeah, at this point I keep track of it and let my family know when I try a new hormonal medication. They've been very helpful.

Thank you for sharing you're story. So it's not just me having that kind of issues.

Copper IUD is a bad idea for me, I already have very painful periods and sometimes loose too much blood. I worry that IUD with progesterone would give me too much pain too. I can't use the ring, because it contains estrogen. However, I've been exploring short acting non-hormonal methods as backup on my own and they're okay

That's great! A strong support network can make a profound difference.
