    How does the patch work?

Hello, I am on the EVRI contraceptive patch. My usual change day is a Friday, however last week I got confused and removed my patch for my patch free week on a Thursday in the morning time. I remembered this this evening (Thursday) and was wondering whether I would still be protected as I applied my patch later than usual, around 11pm. If you measure by days I have applied it on time but by hours it’s around 8 hours late. Do I need to take extra precautions?

I understand that the pill is every set on regimented times you must continually take it at, but will I be unprotected for applying the patch at different times?

I’m not a doctor, but it definitely sounds like you should take extra precautions. I’d also suggest calling your prescribing doc to see what they advise.

The birth control patch prevents pregnancy by releasing hormones that stop your ovaries from releasing eggs. The patch also thickens cervical mucus to make it harder for sperm to reach an egg.
How does it work in detail?
      1. The patch contains the hormones estrogen and progestin.
      2. The patch is applied to your skin once a week for three weeks in a row.
      3. During the fourth week, you don't wear a patch, and your period should start.
      4. You can wear the patch on your upper outer arm, abdomen, buttock, or back.
      5. If the patch comes off, you can put it back on right away if it's been less than 48 hours.
      6. If it's been longer than 48 hours, you should put on a new patch as soon as possible.

      Additional information
      • The patch is 93% effective.
      • The patch doesn't protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
      • When you stop using the patch, your fertility usually returns to normal after about 1 to 3 months.
      • You need a prescription from your healthcare provider to use the patch
