Which Birth control should I go on?

I am 14, and my doctor gave me both nuvaring, and yaz samples to make my period lighter.

    I am not sexually active.
I really am not sure which one I want.

I looked at other websites, and got this.

    Nuvaring:
Pro: Breast enlargement (actual side effect on box)(I have A cups )
    Not going through your system.
    Weight gain (underweight.)
Not having to take pill everyday.

    Con: Itchy.
Gross. (apparently you don't feel it though)
    Mood swings.

    Yaz:
Pro: Weight gain (I am underweight.)
    Not gross.

    Con: Goes through system.
    Taking daily pill.

I am not sure what I want.
I do already have many period problems, such as cramps, and very moody, to the point I cry, for both the cramps and moodiness, then, just really heavy period.

I'm not sure if I want to mix my moodiness with the nuvaring to make it worse.

What do you think I should do?

(by the way, my mom is really pushing the ring, because it doesn't go through your system, and so was my doctor.)

    Hi Elly

I think that the easiest solution would be to try the birth control pills first and see whether or not it helps with the cramps and moodiness... Because you can always switch to something else later.

I think that the reason why maybe everyone is suggesting the Nuvaring is for two reasons, one you are not taking drugs persay for your body and being so young and two, it is something you have to remember to do every single day.

You have to in my opinion, find out what works best for you to stop the cramps so much because your not taking anything for birth control rather, for helping ease pain.

I can't personally see any benefit for you to take something else that will make you even more moodier.

Possibly that is what you are thinking as well.

Perhaps suggest to Mum and your Doctor you want to try Yaz first and see, as the main thing you really need is to ease the moodiness, and cramps.

If not the way to go, you can talk again later about other methods..

Natural things such as wheat bags on your stomach, disprin, and moving, yep, moving, walking also helps ease cramps.

    Good luck.

I would not suggest putting synthetic hormones in your body at age 14 especially if you are not even sexually active. Are you considering becoming sexually active soon?

I was on the pill for 10 years. And let me tell you that after all the side effects I suffered throughout that 10 years, I now welcome my heavy crampy period every single month. It's MUCH better than the :hair loss, fatigue, moodiness, lack of sex drive, weight changes, sore breasts, spotting, lack of motivation and energy.

The thing you have to consider is that what are pros for someone on one pill, may not happen to you at all because your body is different, your hormones are different.

Please reconsider doing this to your body just to have a lighter period. Trust me, there are worse things. And if you must, I'd listen to moms advice. The less interaction the artificial hormones can have with the rest of your body, the better.

You will need to ask more questions, tons of young girls are on the pill not to prevent pregnancy but like the doc said to regulate periods (as well as volume). That and acne control. Everyone is going to react differently to each and every type of contraceptive so it is difficult to know whether or not you will have any side effects at all.
