Brown discharge continued after period ended for over a week
Hi all! I see alot of people read these and I could really use advice. I just ended my first month of birth control pills ever. My period lasted about 5 days, but has never actually ended. I have been having dark brown discharge, enough to stain, everyday for over a week, and have not have a day since my period that i have not had it. I have had yeast infections before, and since it smells funny, thought this might be one too... only it does not itch like a yeast infection. I continued to start the second month of pills and am now a week into the new pack but the discharge continues. Is this normal for having just started the pill, and will it stop soon, or should I seek a doctor? Please help and i hate leaking everyday. -
Birth control can make you have an irregular period for many months. It's just something you have to wait out. You are probably just having continuous spotting. The brown color is just old blood. Period blood does have a different smell to it then regular discharge and it can smell kind of foul at times. If your discharge begins to smell really foul and sort of "fishy", you may have bacterial vaginosis (BV) which is a common bacterial infection. If you do stop bleeding, but the smell does not go away... or if your discharge turns slightly green and thick, then you have BV. If you are concerned about that, see your gynecologist.
