Used to be perfectly regular; haven't had a period in almost 2 years now.

I first got my period when I was 13 (same age as my mother, and the age my doctor said I'd probably first get it), and all seemed normal. I thought I was a bit too heavy, since it was really gross and there always seemed to be way too much blood, but after a year or 2, I learned to manage it pretty well.

Anyways, I'm 23 now, and around the time I turned 21, maybe a few months after, I pretty much stopped having my period all together. It just didn't come, and at first I didn't think much of it when I only skipped a month or two, but eventually, the gap became way too big.

I am nervous to discuss this problem with my doctor. When she asked at my last appointment when my last period was, for some reason I panicked and answered "About 30 days ago." I have no idea why I said that; I'd even intended to bring the problem up. But once I said that, I was too embarrassed to tell her I'd lied.

I've looked up some of the symptoms women get when they have low levels of estrogen (which can make periods stop), but I don't seem to have any of the other symptoms. I mean, aside from being obese, which I know is a major problem, I'm pretty healthy. No fatigue, I get enough sleep, never smoked, never done drugs, rarely drink, not on prescription drugs, no muscle or joint pain, never been on birth control, never really had any sort of concerning health condition at all.

And yes, I have been obese pretty much my whole life, so those 8 years from age 13 to 21 when my period was regular, I was also obese and yet my period was still regular. So I don't really think obesity could be the cause since it's always been present...Right?

Anyways, throughout these 2 years, I have maybe had my period 2 times. Both were completely regular periods for the normal number of days, with the flow I'd had in the past. They were not back to back; I don't remember how far apart they were exactly. Both happened after my living situation changed. The first was around the time I moved back in with my parents and the second was around the time I started my new job. I've since moved back out and returned to school, but did not have a period after that...

Any ideas what this could be? I never liked having my period in the first place and I don't plan on having children (I'd prefer to adopt), but if it's something serious that could affect my health otherwise, maybe I should be more concerned.

Any way you are simply stressed?

I don't think so -- I'm pretty lazy, and tend to do the least amount of work possible to get by...I procrastinate a lot, and that sometimes means I am overloaded right before something needs to be done, but in general, I don't lead a highly active life, so I don't think stress is the cause.
