    Extremely Irregular Periods - Help!

I'm 19 I've was having the contraception injection over 5 years ago and came off 4 years ago, then went on the pill from the age of 16 but only for a few months so from 6 and a half to 19 I have had no kind of contraception. I have also rarely used any other contraception and have not fallen pregnant.

My period are a mess and always have been I will be on for 3 months, off for 3 then on for 6 months off for 6, no real pattern, but surely being on heavy for 6 months straight isn't healthy?

I'm very petite but I'm very healthy.

Also the other problem i have is that I haven't fallen pregnant in years of not using contraception.

I have been to the doctors and they say if I haven't been trying for a baby which I haven't for less than a year they cannot check me over or carry out any tests to make sure I am working correctly.

Im getting very down and wanting to sort myself out so when I'm ready for children I can try, but the doctors aren't helping and no one seems to have any idea about it.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. thank you x

Have you gone anywhere for a second opionion from other doctors?? I'm not sure where you live, but if you're able to go to another location to get checked out, you should. I think it is absolutely absurd that your doctors would refuse to look further into your menstrual irregularity and infertility unless you were specifically looking to conceive in the near future.

Do you have any other symptoms related to your menstrual cycle? Severe cramping, bad PMS, etc?

I got to the doctors every month to nag them lol and yes I have seen every doctor in the surgery and I go to the same ones repeatedly to annoy them until I get answers.

I most recent time I got angry and got all upset and she still just shrugged and waved me out! I said I won't be happy if in a year when I've been try and still nothing that you say well if we knew soon then we could of helped! I will go mad!

I think that's what I'm scared of is something being wrong and not knowing and then feeling like I may never get pregnant. You know?

The doctors are not really going to show much interest if a patient is 19 and trying to conceive. In all reality the body at that age is still growing so they cannot make predictions about future fertility unless something is diagnosed like PCOS or fibriods or something like that. There needs to be an actual diagnosis to then say "you may have fertility issues" because they would have a reason for possible fertility issues. But if everything comes back normal they really do not have much to work with which is why they will seem disinterested in what you have to say.

What you can do is avoid the E.R as that is a waste of time anyway, avoid the medicenter clinics...they are treating people with the common colds who think they are dieing so the doctors are already annoyed, what you need to do is see a specialist. In your case I would say get a referral to see an endocrinologist and of course the gynecologist. You will likely get a plethora of blood work done, if you have been bleeding for so long your tiredness could easily be due to anemia. And for now you will need to just find the OTC pain med that works best for you during those painful times, some women like Advil or Midol.

Ok but I'm staying the doctors won't look for a problem in the first place the problem isn't me not having a bby right now it's the fact they haven't sorted out my problem for them to then test me further at a later date. How can I get to see a specialist if they won't test for anything they just ignore it? Thanks

Because a specialist's job is to look more in depth into things, they know more about the potential abnormal results from even a simple blood test result compared to a general practitioner. A specialist is much more trained to spot what the general docs do not see, that is why they are specialists. A general doc will look at test results and dismiss anything that is not obviously right in front of them and hence they will not give you further tests. The specialist is trained to not do that, they would be the place to go if there was something to be found. Bleeding heavily for that long is not normal, it is likely a combination of still growing into your body and also a hormonal imbalance which could be caused by anything from stress to diet. Ask your family doctor for a referral to a gyne or endocrinologist, ignore the fertility part for now...that is the part that is causing the bump in the road for doctors to test you for anything, you need to have a doctor try to help you find a reason for the abnormally heavy and long periods.
