skipping period but it's still trying to come out!?

A couple of months ago, after I told my doctor my periods were starting to get worse, she suggested skipping them by taking the birth control pill back to back, which I have been doing. (Now I'm a bit confused and not sure when my period was meant to be.. but probably not now.)
I noticed a few days ago I got a consistent headache over a few days and the sides of my boobs were sore, and I would wake up in the night too hot and clammy, things that would normally happen if my period was coming, and then two days ago some brown gooey discharge came out :C then yesterday was fine, then today it's back! Why isn't the pill stopping it? Does it just really really want to come out whether I like it or not? Anyone else experience this? I was wondering if something could be compromising the effectiveness of the birth control pill.. the only recent changes I've made are that I'm now taking an IBS support probiotic and spirulina capsules. This is bothering me so much because I've been really weak for several weeks (doctor thinks probably IBS related), and I seemed to be getting a little stronger gradually, but that last couple of days I've gotten weaker again, and wondered if it was to do with my period still trying to happen. (Also cried a lot the days I've had discharge, how long will this go on?!)

Brown discharge indicates old blood. When was your last normal period? And i never thought "skipping them" was a good idea.. Not long term anyway. Your uterus needs to shed its lining regularly in order to keep healthy, so maybe thats what its trying to do?

Perfectly normal, it's just what happens because your uterus thinks it ought to shed every month if there's no pregnancy or other issues, and your birth control just can't 100% replicate pregnancy.
The way I've heard it, you should let yourself have a period every third month. There are also pills that are made specifically to run like that - Seasonique is one of them, maybe you can ask your doctor about that.
Certainly, finish out your current pack, but after that, you should probably take a placebo break. Try to keep a schedule of how many months of BC you'll take back to back - 2 or 3 is probably the maximum you want to go, but keep it regular.

I think the spirinula (full off a lot of vitamins and other good stuff) you are taking is probably clashing with the birth control. I do not know for sure, but the only way you would know is to eliminate one for a while and see what happens. But this may not be a very easy thing to do, especially, when in pain!

An option if I may suggest is to perhaps temporary eliminate the birth control for at least a month. And see what differences, if any you notice. You can eliminate PMS related issues with some easy dietary tweaks, such as eliminating dairy products and sugary items. You may want to get your menstrualcycle back on schedule so you know the due dates again.
