    Mild Dysplasia?

I'm a 23yr old female, found out today that I had an abnormal pap. Results showed Mild Dysplasia and I've been researching it since I got off the phone with my Dr. I understand it can be contracted from a strand of HPV but that there are also other ways to get it.. Does anyone have a list of other causes? I know it's pretty common and I may never know the true cause of my situation but I'd like to narrow it down as much as possible to keep it from getting worse or reoccurring after treatment..
Also, is it possible to spread?
I am currently seeing a girl, but I have had sex with guys before; always protected.
I do not currently nor have I ever had an outbreak of warts or anything of the sort, so I was extremely surprised when I got this phone call! If it is however related to HPV, can I transmit it to my GF?

Dear ewoite13,a result of dysplasia on a pap test is most probably due to an HPV infection. In this case, you'll probably be asked to repeat the pap test in 4-6 months time. Your gf almost certainly has it as well since you do,there is also the possibility she gave it to you.. I would suggest you get the HPV vaccine, quit smoking if you do,try and keep healthy and use a condom at all times.Seeing as you're in a relationship with a girl,I'm guessing protection must be a little trickier but nevertheless, use condoms on toys.

Ewoite13- I just posted a thread on this issue. I'm 27 & married (been together faithfully for 10 years). If it's CIN I I wouldn't be too concerned but please keep up on it. In Dec 2008 I had my first abnormal pap and after a colposcopy and biopsy it came back as CIN I. I kept a close eye on it. I even had the Guardasil vaccine (before all this). 1 month ago I had to have my 7th colposcopy, 3rd biopsy (with 3 areas needing to be tested), and 2 areas came back as CIN III and 1 came back as CIN II. Very scary! But my point is that if you keep up with your visits and paps you will be fine, regardless of your results. Most cases of CIN I clear up on their own but there is a possibility it can progress. Hang in there!
