    Excess discharge HELP!!

I'm 15 years old and ever since I was maybe 11 or 12 I have had excessive discharge. It's either clear and stretchy or its clear and liquity and sometimes white but nothing really comes out with the white stuff. It has a musky odor. I know it's normal to have discharge like a few spots sometimes but I just have a lot to the point where I feel soaked because of this it's hard to wear skirts or dresses or shorts.(any help there) I don't know if this helps answering my question but I got my period for the first time in march of 2012 and have had it 5 times. I am also slightly below what I should weigh.

Also someone told me that eating better could help and drinking more water. Is that true? And is there any medicines I can take to help? Do they really help? Also does eating yogurt help or I heard putting it up your vagina??

Lastly I have never had sex but I'm scared that if I start a relationship with a guy he will find it gross and disgusting so I'm scared to have sex when I do.

I'm 18 and have been experiencing excess discharge since I was in the 7th grade. I have a high ph level which causes it. Every woman's body is different. Don't do anything like putting yogurt in your vagina that could cause a major infection. I would talk to your guardian, preferably your mother figure, about this and your concerns. Your doctor will do a few tests to figure out if there's anything majorly wrong which there probably isn't. But I suggest going to your doctor. If you feel uncomfortable I would suggest not having your guardian in the room so you can be detailed about what's going on without feeling weird. That'd what I've done. For the time being, try ph balanced wash which you can find in walmart by the vagisil and stuff like that. Also use vagina wipes to clean it up.

    Hope I could help!

From what you've described you sound pretty normal. Discharge is merely the body's way of keeping your vagina clean and by producing it, you know that everything is in healthy working order. The amount each woman produces varies from person to person, as each of us are completely unique and different in our own wonderful way. If the discharge is clear, sometimes a little milky white and has only a very feint odour that is normal. If the smell changes or the colour and consistency changes drastically it may indicate an underlying problem. For instance if you start to produce a lot of a thicker white discharge in conjunction with itching and discomfort, this can be an indication of thrush.

Thrush is an imbalance in the candida albicanus yeast levels in our bodies. This yeast occurs naturally, but is kept in check by our own naturally occuring inner bacterial flora. When we get ill, run down, use products/toiletries that can cause an imbalance or take antibiotics, our levels of these bacteria can drop and the candida yeast organism starts to run riot, producing the thick white cottage cheese-ish discharge associated with thrush. This can usually be cured by taking an OTC remedy like Diflucan One, but a lot of people swear by the traditional remedy of inserting a tampon covered in natural live yoghurt into the vagina, to try and bring about a rebalancing of the natural bacteria levels. This is what you were talking about when you mentioned using yoghurt. However, it is probably best to avoid putting anything inside that doesn't need to be there.

From what you've said, it doesn't sound as though there is anything wrong with you at all. As you get older and once you start your period, you will find that you produce a more noticeable amount of discharge, but this is completely normal. If you feel that you are a little uncomfortable with the amount of liquid produced, I would suggest using a panty-liner like Bodyform to keep you fresh and clean. You should also make sure that you maintain cleanliness, using as the previous poster mentioned, pH balanced hygeine washes for the external genitalia. Try and stay away from things such as vaginal douches as these can cause an imbalance in your body's natural pH levels, causing irritation and increasing your chance of infection. Your body is producing this discharge to keep you clean and does a really good job of it itself.

Oh, and when the time comes to start having sex with a guy, which you probably aren't ready for yet, the most important things to remember are a/ that you are doing it with someone you feel safe and comfortable with and b/ that you are taking the necessary precautions against unwanted pregnancy and STI's. Vaginal discharge will not put a guy off of you and in reality, when you're body is fully ready and aroused enough for you to have sex, you will be producing plenty of your own natural lubrication in order to prepare you for penetration (ie. getting wet). If anything, guys actually really like this because it shows them you're really up for it and really turned on by them! But, that's for a whole other time in the future.

Hope this puts your mind at ease a little.
