    Am I normal? Please help.

Hello. I need some help and I'm really nervous. I am 19 and never been sexually active. I recently examined myself and it seems that the shape and location of my clitoris and urethra are not like what I see in diagrams. It seems that my urethra may actually open somewhere inside my vagina. When I urinate, my tampon becomes wet to some degree with urine.
AND also, my clitoris is directly above the vagina, I mean practically attached to it.

Is this normal? Is something wrong?

Please send me your input, links and whatever information you have.

    I really appreciate it.

As a man I can say with confidence that this is all very normal.

If you look at a diagram of a penis, and then click onto ten adult films at random I'll bet you you'll see ten different penises all at least slightly different (though fundamentally the same) to that which you saw in the diagram. Well, it's kind of the same for vaginas. Just like everyone's face has two eyes, a nose, and a mouth we all look slightly different and so do our bodies.

As men we also appreciate it when the clitoris is within close proximity of the vagina because it makes it easier for us to find.

Re the tampons getting wet, urine, once on the skin or fabric of your clothing (or in this case a tampon) feels more vaporous and voluminous than it actually is. Just getting that string bit (I call it the 'pull-cord' but I'm sure it has a proper name) wet will probably feel, when it rubs/touches on the sensitive skin between your legs and around your vagina lips a lot wetter than it actually is. Maybe one of the other girls can advise you better but my first thought would be is it pushed in far enough? I wasn't sexually active at your age so I can imagine you feeling a little uncomfortable inserting something like that into yourself.

Whilst only a qualified physician can really take a look at you to give you a 100% accurate answer here, as a female who has got all the exact same functioning body parts as you, I can tell you that you sound perfectly normal! Diagrams are useful to a degree, but they are only an average representation. You're not the same height as other women your age are you? Nor do you have the same frame, build, distance between your eyes, length of fingers etc. You are uniquely you and all of the measurements all over your body will be entirely correct in relation to the rest of your physiology. The clitoris is fairly close to the vagina, but of course it will differ in it's exact distance for all us women, depending on our own personal physiology. The urethra and the opening to the vagina are incredibly close and again, with everyone, exact distance will vary. As for a tampon becoming wet due to urination, I think this comes down to the way in which we use the muscles in our lower abdomen to contract the bladder and expel urine. As we clench these muscles, the vaginal sphincter will contract somewhat also, causing the tampon to shift down a little in the vagina, towards the opening and soak up some urine mid-flow. This is completely normal. The only thing I would advise is to change the tampon after urination. I know that on the packet of tampons it tells you, you can leave a tampon in to urinate as it does not interfere with urination, but if you are finding that it moves down and absorbs urine mid-flow, just take it out and change it, making sure to wash your hands before and after.

It's always a bit worrying when you see diagrams and you don't feel as though the way you look is exactly the same, but please try to remember that no one is the same. Diagrams are for basic reference only. As long as you suffer no pain or discomfort in the area surrounding clitoris, hood, labia minora, labia majora etc and you can stimulate the area normally and without discomfort, it's all good and you have nothing to worry about.

      Take care

As an "original" how can you be considered normal or abnormal?

All of us, both men and women, may share similar body parts to other members of the same gender but like snowflakes, no two are alike.

So I wouldn't spend another second comparing yourself to pics, diagrams, your friends, or whatever else and instead wrap your head around the fact that you are an individual. You are one in six billion. You are unique, you are special and you are beautiful in every way.

If you are having "medical" issues or you believe something isn't working "properly" or "as it should" then go and see your family doctor or your Ob/Gyn for a complete exam. Ask any questions you may have and do not leave their office until you are completely satisfied with the information they have provided.

It sounds normal. Just like everyone's faces look different, their body shapes etc...so do their private parts. It's all just a part of your genes. As Seeker said, if you feel you're having medical problems you should seek a professional opinion.
