    Lost Tampon

    Hi ladies,

I am new and hope I chose the right section to post my question. I inserted a tampon 2 days ago and by the time I wanted to change it, I couldn't find the string. I looked it up, tried to find it myself, and I couldn't. I did take a hot bath and retried, but I couldn't find it this time either. I am concerned about Toxic Shock Syndrome, Odor, and possible infections. I am an international student studying in US and I do have the student insurance, tho the college clinic is closed because of holidays and I'm not sure if I can go to an Obgyn using the current insurance. Does anyone know if I can go to ER and use my insurance?
Also any suggestions in regard to the ways to take it out?

    Thanks a lot

Have you tried squatting and bearing down. That's how you push out a baby so I am guessing it will work for the tampon as well.

Each insurance in different. There should be a number on the insurance card. Call it and find out. You don't need to give the details but explain that you need to see an OB and can't wait until the school clinic opens up again. You can also go to the local Planned Parenthood. They provide basic women's healthcare.

You should be able to go to the ER, but I advice against it. There may be a hefty co-pay/deductible. Also, you will probably end up waiting for hours. Try the local urgent care first.

You sure it didn't come out? I've had them slip out when I was peeing if I push at all. You should be able to feel it. It can't get anywhere else. If you don't have good insurance and you don't have much if any income planned parenthood will treat you for free or near it.

Are you living with a host family or on your own? Speak with your host mom if you have one.
I'm familiar with some exchange programs and I know the insurance is typically very good with those programs. Call the number, as sp suggested and see about coverage. A general practitioner could likely solve your problem as well, if gynecologist visits are not.
