    hysterectomy

    hi all
i have recently been told by my doctor that i have to have my uterus removed (due to a 7cm fibroid on my uterus wall).
I only went to the doctors to discuss heavy menstral cycles, i was told to go for a ultrasound and was given the bad news. I was not expecting anything like this. Has anyone had a hysterectomy, if so how did you feel about it. any help and advise please im still in shock.

Depending up your age it could be the best day of your life - it was the best day of my life. I was 38 and not planning on having any more children and it was a blessing. So if you are not planning on children in the future, I'd say go for it. Just think, no more out of action 7 days a month. No more pain, not more cursing the curse.
That which we forget may as well never really happened.

I searched for this thread about hysterectomy, as my GP has mentioned it after my test results recently. I've seen twice from Claret that it was the best day of your life. I was wondering if you had anything wrong before you had a hysterectomy or was it just something you wanted because of not wanting any more children? I'm almost 35 and don't want any more kids. I was recently diagnosed with polyps, fibroids and Adenomyosis. Periods have been a constant struggle since I was about 15 and was told that a hysterectomy would be needed. But due to my age, they couldn't do it. So now that I'm still all messed up and have tried IUD's and birth control and anything else to regulate my periods, I don't think I can wait until menopause to end the pain I feel most days. It's affecting my sex life with my husband as it seems I'm always on my period. When we got pregnant, that was a shock. But we're happy we have a healthy son and don't want any more. Nor risk having miscarriages or anything. I've just read the side effects of a hysterectomy and how it might not fix my problems. I don't mind the fact that I may need to have one. It's just the after part I'm nervous about.
