    Discomfort with tampons

Hi I am 15 years old and I have recently tried using tampons for the first time. In previous attempts, I was unable to insert the tampon at all. Now, I can insert it fully, but it leaves me in much discomfort when I move or walk. My mom says it's just because I'm not used to it, but I know that you aren't supposed to feel the tampon at all. As for removing the tampon, I can hardly do it. It is terribly painful and it brings me to tears almost every time. I don't know if I should keep using tampons or wait until my hymen gets broken or stretched.

I have looked into the possibility of having an irregular hymen. My menstrual blood flows very normally. But when it comes to tampons, I feel like something is wrong. I have tried even inserting a single finger and it still hurts very badly. I don't know what to do at this point. Should I tell my mom to schedule something with my doctor? Or should I just wait it out?

It could be you aren't positioning it correctly - it isn't far enough inside you. You're right, you shouldn't be able to feel it in place. How far in are you placing it?
It could be you're using a size inappropriate for your flow (try the junior size) so that it's a little dry when you try to remove it-how many hours are you leaving it in place, and is it saturated when you remove it?

It could be other things with your anatomy, which your doc could address. It isn't too early to have a pelvic exam, if you want to go that route. There's also nothing wrong with taking a couple more months to get comfortable with it & see how it goes. Glad you're talking to Mom about this - keep that up!

I have always had issues with feeling tampons and I'm in my 30's. I have always had a light flow so regular has always been too much for me. Also try different brands ask your friends what they use too. It took a long time for me to find a brand and size that worked for me.

I had that problem when I first started using them, too, which made me forgo them for years.
It might help to try smaller ones, or after you get it in to check on it to make sure it's in there all the way. I usually push mine up a little farther.
It may also help you to relax more. Try to stretch your legs out and relax your muscles while pulling it out. If your muscles are tight on it, then it's going to hurt.

Is the hymen hurting, or is it stinging inside as it's going in? If it's stinging while inside, it doesn't have to do with your hymen.
If it is your hymen, then trying a smaller size might work, and if it doesn't you might want to go to the doctor.
