Your doctor will carry out the pre-surgical side of things, such as prescribing you medicine a month prior to the operation to thin the lining of your womb....but the actual surgical procedure will need to take place in the hospital.

I dont think there is an age limit, but i imagine your doctor will try alternative options beforehand.... assuming you want the operation for heavy periods (?), then you can always try taking the contraceptive pill to reduce your flow or have the coil fitted. Personally, i'd try all options before using surgery... your body is 'meant' to have a monthly period, its natures way... even if it is a drag

Usually I am a lurker but I saw your post. I had this procedure done 7 years ago and it is wonderful IF you do NOT ever want children! This procedure burns off your endometrial lining which is what sheds and bleeds (your period) every month. The endometrial lining is also what a fertilized ovum embeds in for a baby to grow. Once the lining is damage/destroyed, No more children. Now, this being said...there is a chance you could still get pregnant so it is not a form of birth control. After an ablation has been performed, it could/is very dangerous if the woman was to become pregnant and try to carry to term. My doctor would not even do the surgery except for women who had already had their family and were at least in their mid-30s.

Like miffed23 pointed out, There are other options which can both lighten and get your periods on a schedule if that's what the issue is! In fact, I used birth control pills for years to control my menstrual problems and it worked pretty well. After I had my children, my doctor and I decided an ablation would be good for my case.
