How would you classify men by "types" Curious to hear some ideas :)

I'm tryng to decide what "type" of man I would be interested in and compatible with (Thanks, CW).

Unfortunately, only "stereotypes" come to mind and I don't want to put men in a negative light so I'm putting it out there,

What "TYPES" of men are there?

Men are as diverse as a women and we can type them into stereotypes... because just like with us there are some guys that fit tidy into he douchebag box, or the nice guy box... but truth is... theres a little of each in both :P

Scars remind us of where we've been...they don't have to dictate where we're going.

It's age dependant or morals, one of the two and I'll refrain till later be interesting to hear both men and women's opinions

I agree, we all have different dimensions to who we are but don't most people focus on the "main idea" so to speak of who a person is or presents themselves to be?

Any more takers on this question....if we were to give a label to a TYPE....what TYPES of guys are out there today?

The ones who always seem to need something and the ones who always seem to provide something to others.

The ones who always fail due to someone else's fault and the ones who fail due to their own.

The ones who are always unhappy and the ones who are always happy.

Mmmm I'll bite. Let me start off by apologizing, I'm not a very "politically correct" person. Also, I'm just naming basic personality traits. It doesn't mean one can't possess another, simply one outshines the others.

1.) The "funny" guy. By far my-type. Always can make you laugh. Always makes others laugh. Usually talks too much for his own good.
2.) Mr. Intelligent. He knows everything, and usually he's quite the conversationalist. Has a hint of arrogance always surrounding him.
3.) Nerdy Birdy. The avid lover of video games, movies, comic books, and anime. Incredibly interesting to hang out with around the house, but a bit socially awkward.
4.) The Jock. Great to look at. Fun to play fight with. Usually has a more flirty attitude, but it's pretty hard to get to know the "real" him.
5.) The Mommas Boy. Has a pure heart of gold. Always has the most optimistic demeanor about him. Not used to being told no.
6.) Richy Rich. Usually unbelievably charming and light-hearted. I'd say the worst thing about these type is they tend to have a manipulative side.

Of course, there are other breakdowns, but for the most part, that's how I generalize guys. If someone asks me my "type" of guy, these are the options I assume I have. So, I'll say I'm more into the funny guy meets the nerd.

I have yet to come up with my own "classification of the types of men" and maybe list a wide array of taxa and post it here sometime. While I'm brewing that concoction, I'm reading What's He Really Thinking (an e-book by Bob Grant, LPC).

In his book, he categorized men into two: 1) The Nurturers, 2) The Protectors

The Nurturers - he described them as being sensitive and more in touch of their emotions and are often concerned about maintaining harmony in the relationship. He is attuned to not only his feelings, but also to his partner's emotions, and one of his main goals is to be caring, nurturing, and concerned about his woman's emotional state and the relationship as a whole. His masculine qualities are highlighted with the desire and drive to make the woman in his life feel more comfortable and know that is is valued.

The Protectors - Grant said that most men fall into this category. This type of man feels a strong sense of responsibility to make sure that there is security in his home and for the woman of his choice. It could include financial security and physical security.

Some men may display both characteristics, but one could be stronger than the other. He advises that when you are selecting your lifetime partner, find the one that complements you. When you know his predominant style, you can help him nurture his secondary style by rewarding him, providing him consistent reinforcement for him to develop that portion of his personality.

I'm not done reading it yet. But I do love the book. I hope this helps.

On top of the classifications talked about by others you can put alphas, betas and omegas. Some classifications will not allow for alphas, betas or omegas. For instance, The Mommas Boy is not likely to be an alpha or a beta. A true leader would always be an alpha or a beta (in the case of there being a stronger alpha).
