Not entirely related, but you might also read the book "Captivating" by the same author. I found it very insightful. He's a great author and his wife also co-wrote this one.

BD- My fiance is much like that. He speaks and THEN realizes "well, that didn't sound like I meant"...but it took him a while to even realize when he said the wrong thing. You're both still getting to know one another and he probably don't know how you'll react to certain comments, therefore not realizing how it affects you. My fiance says some really stupid things and it STILL upsets me, but I think it could be a little immaturity on his part, about thinking it's funny he can't remember things after 2 am. Be an adult, be responsible is what came to my mind. But if you feel he feels strongly about you and isn't going anywhere, I would take some of the things with a grain of salt, or talk to him frankly about it. My fiance and I still go over certain things that he says that bugs me, but I need to realize that it's part of his personality and he is kind of an "idiot" sometimes, lol. I have to accept him for who he is and the fact that he doesn't communicate certain things the best. Honestly is the best policy. Get it all out on the table now while things are still fresh. I let it bottle up inside until we had a huge blow out. I wish I would have just said something earlier, because its much easier now. Plus, he knows what will or wont upset me.

Sounds like he might be a bit insecure. If he feels you are a little out of his league, he might pull moves to prove to you that he's a catch! Like another poster said, he was texting you... he was thinking about you while out at a bar with his drunky friends that probably give him junk for calling his girl. The cowboy hat thing, was, in my opinion, one of those things guys say without realizing that we will know exactly what prompted that thought lol... and they have NOOO clue it will land them in the doghouse when they say it. He probably thought he was being cute, having no idea what it would come off like -- that he saw some outfit on some chick that sparked his attention. He probably thought mentioning he wants to see it on you would make you think good thoughts, not 'ur a jerk thoughts'.

If my bf said something like that, he'd be in the doghouse cause i would have taken it exactly as you did. But he wouldn't, because he's learned how I take things he says and has become respectful of my (sometimes overly sensitive feelings). You guys are a new couple, he's still figuring out what makes you tick both negatively and positively and we both know... guys will never truly figure us out lol... just when they think they do BAM... gotta keep on their toes right? lol

He's flirting with you plain and simple.

If he made a joke of I don't remember much after 2, lol's, but wrote to you before that, he was thinking of you, visualising you, missing you.

Remember, so the story goes, a man's mentality is 4 years younger than a womans.

You are dating someone, who is going to act immature at times, he's not only younger than you, but mentally younger than you.

Your best bet, is to say, pfttttt I'll wear the cowboy thingys if you wear a g-string....

            Flirt back, it's early days.
