He's so stern... what should I do?

I saw this guy today in the dining hall at the university.

He is a little over 6 foot, wide shoulders, very cut.

Yet he is so mysterious. He sat alone, there were Korean students across the room. This guy looks oriental too, Filipino maybe?

He is just so tense looking you know? Yet interesting, I don't know what to do.

He is a big guy, barely smiles, frowns like he is constantly thinking.

    How can I approach him?

just do it. Walk up to him and say "hi".

if he says nothing, ask "how are you?"

      Hi acerousme,

      Thank you for your response.

I was thinking about what you had suggested. I am wondering about another issue, confidence... This guy who I have an eye for seems like he can take care of himself, yet he isn't loud like these other guys who seem like jerks, yet they aren't nearly as introvert as this guy. Is this a bad sign or is this the kind of guy that I should go after?

Some individuals, especially in a scholastic setting, have a single purpose in mind -- get through the next set of exams, labs and reading. Not to say that they won't have some fun time and free time, you maybe just caught him in mid-thought. Say Hi! and keep saying it each time you pass by. Eventually he'll say hello or hi or something in return. Then, open up a conversation. Perhaps English isn't his first language and that is what keeps him from joining in conversations easily. You never know unless you speak with him.
That which we forget may as well never really happened.
