    Friends With Benefits

I am in a fwb relationship. At first I liked the guy but decided on fwb after figuring out he wasn't boyfriend material. He came over last night and we ended up in a fight. Well it wasn't so much as a fight but we ended up getting upset with each other and he left before the benefits part of our relationship kicked in. I wanted to know, what's everyone else's opinions on a fwb relationship? Have you ever been in one and how did it work out?

Always ends horribly, because people can't have sex without developing feelings. Especially women. Then one person like the other and it just gets messy.

Very few women (and probably men) consider sex to be so inconsequential that they can do it with no relationship consequences. Though one individual encounter may turn out perfectly fine, over the course of a fwb relationship some feelings (positive, negative or both) eventually grow to the point of either becoming mutually attached or someone feels disappointed or used.

As much as our culture tries to pretend that sex can be casual, it really is a serious deal.

I think fwb with equality may be great in theory, but it is hard to pull off in real life.

I had two and both went well. Each one was for over a couple of years, when either of us had steadies we would still be friends but without much contact for awhile, we'd get back together once the steadies ended. Once we all got married we obviously ended the benie's but I'm still friends with one of them over 30 years later. Lost touch with the other.
It can work, takes a special friend or someone not interested in getting serious though.

It also takes a SO who doesn't feel threatened by the continued friendship.

These kind of relationships are unhealthy, IMO. One person usually ends up having feelings for the other, while the other has no intent of forming a real relationship. If I were you, I'd end the FWB thing and start looking for a guy who is boyfriend material =)

That kind of relationship always ends up hurting each other and the most affected one are usually the girls.
