    question about neighbours

I live in a small coastal town and during the evenings say between 6 and 8pm i often leave the front door open, everyone here does it. the breeze gets in and the dog and cat can go to the toilet out there - theres no crime and we all know each other. but no one just walks into your house without a word, even close friends, will call out. you know hey its so and so before they walk in. However someone bought a holiday home next door, they are friends of friends and seem like nice people. their 10 year old daughter keeps just walking into our house. You walk in and theres a hall and a storage room and then up the stairs to the living area, she just walks in right up to our living area. i have asked her to stop several times and was going to tell her mum to put a stop to it - but when her mother came over she did the same thing!! i was so shocked i didnt know what to say and i keep obsessing over it. now that christmas is coming up, they will be visiting, obviously i have to say something but WHAT? am i overreacting to feel so intruded upon?

i want to get on well with my neighbours - so help me.

Don't think you have a choice, they are used to what you are used to, and so, walk in and up and say hi, um god forbid you decided to um get going over the couch hey..

For the time being, i would, lock the door for now... It will make them think "you are different" and stop it, without saying anything..

Can you leave the back door open therefore, for the dogs, cats?

Shame, such a beauty , i have security shutters, in - fact i have locked myself out and cant' jump the fence ... different world...

they're arent from around here, there actually from the city, maybe they think thats how it is up here, thats all i can think. that they're not aware of ettiquette of the situation.

As a good neighbor you should explain it to them. They are trying to fit in and don't know how. Take plate of cookies and go visit, in the conversation, ask owo they like it there? How is it different from the city? Talk about the differences you see. Make an example, "maybe in the city people just walk in if the door is open, we always knock or call out before we come into a freind's home." You can try to get the point across gently and if that doesn't work be more straight forward.

if you have a screen door, lock it from the inside. if it doesnt have a lock, get one of those hook & eye hole sets and use that. if you dont have a screen door, buy one with a lock and have it installed.

my close friend used to always walk in with just a quick hello, until one day my boyfriend and i were having an afternoon delight, and we didnt hear her. i mean she didnt see anything, but it was quite obvious. now she toots her horn when she arrives and calls out till i answer!! her face was priceless! my screen door doesnt lock, but i need a new one, so maybe i could get that before christmas.

its not just the breeze, my dog and cat like to go out for a toilet break before bed, i'll just lock the door and take them out before bed.
