    "One True Thing"

This is the tittle of a Movie I seen the other night, it's an older movie but 1 in which I'm sure is very true in some peoples lives, I suggest every woman watch it.
I'm not one who cries at movies but this one did. I have to say a little about it because I wanted to ask this question in the thread.

The jest of it was, actress Meryl Streep has cancer and is dying, the husband ask their daughter who has a good job and lives out of town to come and live with them to take care of her, more so because he says he doesn't have the time.

Well the daughter finds out Father is cheating on her Mother. He's very selfish but at the same time treats his wife very good, has been a good Father and provider. She doesn't tell her Mother.

Before she dies tho, she calls her into the bedroom and tells the daughter there is nothing she doesn't know about her Father that she doesn't know herself and has known about the cheating for quite some time.

Heres the the statement in so many words and I won't be able to say it all like Meryl did that's why you need to watch it, if you'd like.

She tells her daughter that when your young with not much baggage behind you it's one thing but when you've been thru so much together and have raised kids, so on and so on, she says quite a bit more. You realize if you break it off you cut so much apart of you out of your life, heart and soul, that you just learn to deal with it. Now I know that sounds strange and I don't necessarily agree with it because normally I would suggest a woman leave but she is giving her explanation to her daughter why she has not and will not leave. I guess part of what I'm saying, her explanation made me to rethink about how I can at least understand how it's just not so cut and dry. I mean I knew that before but now I can sympathize with a woman a little better, how they could decide to stick it out regardless. It's sad and this was very, very sad .

The father knows his daughter found out. After she dies the daughter and the father appear to start on a road to reconciliation,, it happens at the grave site, wow!

My question is what is the opinion of some here who might have been thru this type of situation or something similar? I know what most will say because I've followed threads here and posted on some.

But taking in what I've said about this, does it ring a bell to anyone here? Thot's, opinions. You would have to see this to get the full impact of my thot's I feel, but I tho't I'd try!

My mother-in-law stayed with her husband for over 60 yrs. He was a creep, she could have divorce him over and over again and if you was to say something about it now or about him she would get very upset. He's dead now. She still Loves him, I know you can't just stop loving some one after so many yrs but now I understand a little better how she was able to put up with it, not that I agree with it but..................????

This is hard for me to say but my mother was the one always cheating and my father never did anything about. He loved her so much even though she put him through at times. He passed away 10yrs ago of cancer, and she's acts like she was a saint during their whole marriage. But I know other wise, and I'm pretty sure my father had a idea of some of the things that were going on. I often wonder why and how could he put up with that, she never had to work a day in her life and still doesn't. It's hurts me now to remember some of cases that I walked in on and she even had the nerve to tell me about some of her affairs ( I was a young teenager at the time)... But no matter what my father loved her unconditionally and with all of his heart... I still can't for the life of my understand why.

Christina12, I terribly sorry this has happened

Sometimes I think Love can be a mystery of a sorts and only 1 of the 2 understands it fully and yet they go thru life never telling how it is solved in their own minds.
      It goes really deep!

It is very sad, but sometimes love is not returned. It is possible to love someone who does not love you back. If you do, you will do everything for them no matter how badly you are treated.

It sounds like your father was a good man.

You know the sad thing is my father was career military did 25 yrs in the Navy when I was little he had to go on 9 mths cruises so I knew who my daddy was but we didn't have a really good close relationship because once we got to know each other he went out to sea again. We were not able to really get close until I was about 18 and when we did I can say he was my best friend, then about 5 yrs later he died on me But I always remember how great he was. Yeah he sometimes did the "man thing" and would help out others before taking care of something for my mom but he would get around to it and made sure that it was perfect when he did.

Bottom line Thank You he was an wonderful man and it still hurts to this day that he is not in my life enjoying it with me and my family....

I guess love is truly a funny game.

By the way "In Need" I'm a BIG Phantom Of The Opera Fan

Merry Christmas to you all !!!

You shouldn't judge too harshly, you don't know what kind of an understanding they had. If you did, you might be surprised. You are judging a private part of their lives, it was inappropriate for your mother to share some of that with you. But if your dad was ok with it, let go of it.

I think, that if your Dad, wasn't able to be in your life much as he was out to sea, then he wasn't able to be in your Mother's life much either.

Her sharing may have been her way to try to commincate that with you, but she didn't know how.

Him undertanding was again probably because he knew he was never there for her.

Perhaps their love ran in a different way, after all they had you and stayed together.

What is a blessing is that from 18 for 5 years, you really got to know your Daddy and that's hard that he's not here now, most definately.. But, you have wonderful memories, wonderful... If he was still out to sea, then you wouldn't have had those at all...

In-need... I don't believe there is one person on this planet that hasn't suffered, hurt, been hurt, or been "bullied" by someone, at some point and time.

I do believe that you "choose" whether you allow those people to hurt you, or thoughts to hurt you, or whether alternatively, you only remember the good, you disregard the bad, and you feel sorry for the person that can not help themself but want others to be misserable, with their words.

                  Choice.

                  Choose.
