    80/20 Rule

I have made many ref's to the 80/20 rule I wanted to take a moment to explain what I mean for those of you who don't know.

This is a quote from the Tyler Perry movie..why did I get married I think it explains it very simply and best

In most cases, especially in relationships, you will
only get 80% of what you NEED and you will hardly get the other 20% that
you WANT in your relationship. There is always another person (man or
women) that you will meet and that will offer you the other 20% which is
lacking in your relationship that you WANT. And believe me, 20% looks
really good when you are not getting it at all in your current
    relationship.

But the problem is that you will always be tempted to
leave that good 80% that you know you have, thinking that you will get
something better with the other 20% that you WANT.

But as reality has proven, in most cases, you will
always end up with having the 20% that you WANT and loosing the 80% that
you really NEED and that you already had.

Be careful in deciding between what you WANT and NEED
    in your life.

Actually the 80/20 rule originates from business. Typically in sales 20% of the people make 80% of the sales, this is verifiable by looking at the numbers. It also seems to apply in other settings, there is a core group that just produces, they get things done and the rest sort of slide doing the minimum, this is harder to quantify.

I don't know about this application to relationships, I get the feeling that in many cases far less than 80% of what is needed is there and very little of what is wanted. BUt that perception is probably colored by my own experiences.

It was originally called the Pareto principle and is a common rule of thumb in most business practices. I'm well aware of its origins however in today's society especially in relationships this 80/20 meaning is servicing as more of a pillar of understanding especially in the counseling department. I wanted to give more insight as to what I was ref'ing when commenting on peoples threads
