Mental cruelty why do men do it

Does anyone know why do male partners like to treat there girlfriends badly by inflicting mental cruelty on them?
Is it normal? to do that to someone?
And how can you stop them from doing it?

    What sort of mental cruelty?

Abuse isn't a part of a normal relationship and shouldn't be tolerated. By far not ALL men are like this, though. But there are some bad eggs, as there are with women as well.

its not all men. And I believe both men and women are guilty of doing this. As for stopping there has to be mutual respect built. You need to sit and talk to your partner and find out what is triggering it.

Sally is absolutely right and if you can't resolve it you need to get out.

No resolving it. You can't stop them from doing it. It's who they are. You are allowing it, demand respect. Drop him.

Its usually because of how they were raised or a mental problem if u want to go on with the relationship it will only lead in heart break trust me. It will only lead to worse abuse. Don't let anything like that happen to you.

Yup, like the above posts said.
I think it's a 'power' thing. Dominating someone else by being mean really feeds some people. And, yeah, it's not just guys who do it.

Insecurity, need of being in control, self-doubt, paranoia, no trust in others, it could be anything. But this is not how all men are, plus, several times mental cruelty leads to physical cruelty.

These kind of men don't change, only become more and more cruel with time and don't stop until they turn you into a brainwashed vegetable.

Mental or physical cruelty, get out of there.

No, it's not normal and you don't have to take it... I think you should do like Sally said and try to figure out what is triggering it. Definitely let him know that what he says hurts you (it sounds obvious but sometimes we hold things in and assume that they know how badly something bothers us).

If after talking to him, you can't reach a resolution, then I'd move on. That is no way to live.
