First off, many of the things that Gigi, HD, Mes and Joey mentioned they find romantic are things that many of us do naturally. Little things are important and shouldn't be overlooked.

Some of the things I don't do anymore. Romance and things romantic go both ways. It's easier to do romantic things for someone when romantic things are done in return. I know from my own experience that it's hard to continue to be romantic and do things that are romantic for her when it becomes a one way street.

I'm actually a hopeless romantic, but when it's taken for granted, romance isn't important anymore.
My sisters SO has gotten lazy with his romantic side, yet my sister spoils him with massages, and more affection than when they first met.So I agree,if it is taken for granted,it isn't really important.

I wonder if some men really do have somewhat of a hard time being the romantic type.Or maybe some guys just don't give a whoop enough and take there SO for granted.

In all relationships I have had, I am ALWAYS romantic. I like to keep the same spark that was at the start of the realtionship all the way through. In regards to my Ex's (particularly one of the them) it was recipricated to an extent, and then it just grew out. I continued to be my usual romantic self, but i didnt even get the same in return - even down the the extent where one of my Ex's didnt think it was necessary to put x's at the end of a text/email/letter because he thought it went without saying. (sounds pathetic, but things like that to a girl are definitly noticed).

        yes and yes.

I do think some men (not all) do have a hard time being romantic in the sense that they don't always understand that what they may find unimportant to them may be important to their SO. That's called not having an open mind. Sometimes the get themselves trapped in some "machismo" about being flirty and emotional. Again, that's not having an open mind.

Yes, some guys do take their SO for granted. Just like some ladies take their SO's for granted. That's called selfishness.

That's the EXACT problem my sister has. Therefore, she thinks her boyfriend is losing interest.

Seriously,How can a couple have a healthy relationship when one shows affection, and keeps the relationship "new",but the other is selfish and feeds off of the other spoiling them?

Personally,if both of them aren't willing to put forth effort into that romance, and spark side, then the relationship isn't going to last.Atleast for me,I wouldn't willingly want to be in a relationship where I'm the only one doing special things for him, spoiling him,and getting nothing in return.I don't feel selfish saying that because every relationship needs its romance, and I don't want to be the only one giving effort in that sense.(Luckily my boyfriend is a hopeless romantic ) Like you said Joey, little changes are what a girl notices.

I think that some men think that a way to a girls heart is to buy her her things like flowers, candy, jewelry ect, because there aren't sure how to physically show affection or be a romantic person. While gifts are also nice,I guess personally,I'm more of the type that prefers kisses out of spite, cute texts messages, surprising me such as showing up at my work with lunch, and one of the biggest things for me him telling me he loves me.I'm a very romantic person, and just little things like goodmorning/night messages as he tells me how he feels about me makes me fall for my boyfriend even more.

Oh some women are just as guilty and can be just as selfish.

Advertising. Also, listen to what some of the complaints and where they tend to be.

Gigi this is so true. I'd much rather have kisses and touches and cuddling and just some tenderness and affection than a bunch of trinkets. I love to bake or cook something special, give massages or randomly come up with a book or something I think would be enjoyed. But I've never gotten much reciprocation.

That's a sweet thought but after so many years, a little hard to believe. Lately I'm working on reclaiming my dreams and what I can give myself without anyone else in the picture. The kids will both be moving on building their own lives soon and I've realized I can't just sit my hands waiting for someone to love me the way I'd like. I buy myself flowers and try to do more little caring things for myself.
