I guess, perhaps it depends on the type of person you are and what you find romantic that dictates how romantic you find your partner. I consider myself a practical romantic.. I don't need the massages and cute texts, so I don't miss them when my boyfriend doesn't do them. I am much more appreciative and feel closer when he does things for me that are more practical and sweet, it shows he wants to take care of me... like how he found and fixed the draft in the door because I said my feet were cold when I went in the kitchen, or when I'm going on a business trip, and he does a full inspection of my car to make sure everything is working correctly and set right. Or when I make his lunch for him in the morning because he's tired and wants to spend those extra 10 minutes sleeping in... Little things like that is how my boyfriend and I show that we appreciate and love each other.

We don't really need the physical a lot, not to say that we don't kiss/hug/cuddle, we do, but probably not as much as other couples... and that's okay because we're both like that. But I wouldn't be overly happy with a guy who required me to kiss and touch him all the time, and I would get annoyed with someone always kissing and hugging me, I find it kind of clingy. That's just who I am...

so I guess it depends on what you find romantic, and what you require to be happy in a relationship. If you're a person that wants and craves physical signs of affection, then you should find someone who also enjoys giving and receiving those things.. (easier said than done, I understand that people can start out that way and affection wanes as the relationship progresses)

        You are very right pretzel...

One time I made a comment that I cant believe he still opens my doors after all this time and he told me that is how its supposed to be, that its what guys are supposed to do.

I am very lucky in that my guy was raised very respectfully, manners are something that are almost instinctual, being a gentleman therefore just comes natural.

But I thank him every time he does something for me, every time. I gush, I adore him, I smother him with appreciation (and BJ's!! lol)

You are so SO right on the money there. Me, personally, I could not thrive in a relationship with someone unnaffectionate... and I know girls that would suffocate in a relationship with someone affectionate to the degree I require. Its all about finding that match, thats when its magic. A snuggler finding a snuglee... a 'give me my space' personality being with a person that also needs plenty of it.

I think you are also right on the notions of romance... its different for all of us. I think the one constant in a romantic gesture is that its done from the heart, its done because they care... whether its a love note or taking out the trash... its in the little things, the little every day things.

I buy myself flowers and try to do more little caring things for myself.
My dear friend, couple of things you need to get stright with yourself. One, it will happen because it's supposed to happen. Good people are always rewarded in the end. Two, you now have a much better perspective of who you are and what you want. We've talked here so many times and both have gained greater respect for what's important to us. Life's just opening up to you again. That's something so worthwile in looking forward to.
