    Blood test, the new passport ?

    I wanted to know if the blood test has become the passport when one is in a serious relationship.

    * How often is this used ?
    * Is it a common practice ?

    For me, I felt compelled to take one in order to show my GF that I was 'clean' and was serious about us...

    It is good that you did that to show how pure your intentions are. But it should not be forced on to someone you love - like what you did - voluntary.

    Some families require it. On the pragmatic side, it could be beneficial aside from the STI's side, it could also be a spring borad for genetic counseling so whatever genetic issues your offspring might encounter along the way, you and your future spouse could decide which road to take.

    I am not against it. My hats off to you...but to others who have not done this yet, please don't be like INS which requires such from foreign spouses of their citizens.

      I remember when Blood test were manditory before you were able to marry, I believe they should be again, only because people rarely use protection anymore, you may marry someone who has a virus and they had NO idea. For that purpose alone I believe it is the responsible thing to do. Once you are married your life is your husbands life, your husbands life is your life and you both deserve to know what you are getting yourself into. I believe the same about credit reports

        Although I am pretty sure that my boyfriend is clean, I wish that he would take one. However he is one of the "if it doesn't hurt its not there" men and I don't think that he will ever come around to it. Unless he realizes there is a problem of course and then its just too late!

        I personally take one every so often.
        speaking of which . . .

          I also did mine a couple of months ago, got tested for STI's and all, just so I have peace of mind.

          The dilemma so it seems is partner sensitivity. What if you wish your partner gets tested and you just don't know how to start?
