i have had some personal experience in a similar situation, except it was my husband who had the addiction.he spent all of our childs savings, over 500 on pornography. i will also be recieving my psychology degree in a few months and have researched this very disease. yes, it is a disease. a person previously responded that you should seek professional assistance for your friend, this is a great idea. as commited and willing as you maybe to help your friend he is going to need intense therapy to handle this. he needs to learn not only how to handle his guilt but most importantly how to overcome his addiction. i do not know either of you but i am willing to assume that if his preference is for small/young children then he has probably had at least a few thoughts about having a real physical encounter with someone who fits his preference. i am not judgig or claiming to be a professional at these types of addictions but i have studied them to a degree and i just wanted to offer an outside point of view. i hope that things get better for him and wish him the very best of luck.

Thanks Henna, it's interesting to get the perspective of someone who has been through this situation. I'll continue to encourage him to seek professional help to get him to change his preference if he can't do it himself. Your assumption is right - and the realisation horrified him. It's rather scary!
