The difference in having a "friend" and a "girlfriend", being "straight" and "lesbian" is sexual attraction. You can care about your friend, you can enjoy spending time with a friend of the same sex, but when it comes to becoming sexual with someone it cannot be forced, whether you like the attention or not.

You cannot really "love" a friend, there are limits. You don't give it all for a friend like you would for someone you're in love with.

You must be very young, maybe going to a school where there are no boys around, you and your friends go through hormonal changes, so it's expectable for you girls to be curious about what's going on. However, don't let your friends affect your judgement and don't let tomboys/anyone influence your sexual choices. Just because there are so many girls around does not make it necessary for you to develop a relationship with one of them. Don't do anything because "it's cool" or because "that's what most girls at school do". Do what you feel.

Because by what you've written it sounds like your friend has encouraged this "closeness" between you and the tomboy, when you had no such intentions yourself. So, be careful with how easily you offer yourself and your company to others. Don't do anything you don't want to do and focus on your studies. You have so many years ahead of you to spend on relationships.

Lesbian women or gay man generally know from a young age (although they may fight to hide it even from themselves) that they are sexually attracted to their own gender. This is something within them that cannot be fully denied, they simply have no sexual attraction to the other gender. Bi-sexuals are attracted to both. Straight people are not sexually attracted to their own gender.

I would guess that you are fairly young and at an age when curiosity is strong and so is peer pressure. I encourage you to tell your friends that you just aren't ready yet to consider a "relationship" and would rather just have female and male freinds for now. If they cannot respect that, then they aren't very good freinds. In time you will have a more clear feeling about what YOU want rather than what they are pushing you into.

You should only go out with, date or be with someone YOU are interested in, someone you find wonderful, intelligent, funny, beautiful, attractive. It does not matter what your friends prefer. You can have many friends that like to date guys. You can have many friends that like to date girls. You can have friends that like to date both.
