Potential Cheater, i'd love some opinions.

Hi there everyone, I'll try and explain this as briefly as possible.
I am in a relationship with a man, have been for a year or so. We are both quite young, early twenties, and we had a bit of trouble last summer, but have moved on and become much stronger.
We are very close friends, we have alot in common and we both have the same outlook on life. He says he sees me as someone he would like to be with longterm. Wonderful, i feel the same.
Now, he is very emotionally distant, i know he cares and he does show it but quite rarely, he is not the type to say i love you at all. I can deal with that, i have learnt how to be comfortable with that.
I am a very understanding and complacent person, i will do anything to make him happy and he knows it. He doesn't really take advantage though, until we talk about the main problem i have.
I found some texts on his phone, there are 5 girls he regularly texts. He doesn't meet them, however he will try and arrange to see them ect. He is very flirty on these texts, (not a problem in my mind yet, we all flirt a bit) but he goes too far, and asks for sexual favours. They always say no and laugh it off. He has recieved sexy pictures from them, and this is where i start hurting.
We talked about it and he says that it is for the ego boost, to know that other girls still find him attractive and if it came down to it he probably wouldn't cheat; he knows that when he asks the girls that they'll say no. (his exact words). He says that he isn't out looking to cheat on me, but does have the opinion that variety is good, but he hasn't cheated on me, and if he hasn't wanted to yet, chances are he won't (his words again).
So, i have a good man, who is good to me in general, but he isn't morally opposed to cheating. His father cheated on his mother and caused a very painful divorce when he was ten, so you'd think he would be so opposed to it!! Anyway, my reaction, after i stopped feeling sick, was to tell him that i wanted the permission to be able to look at his phone/social networking sites whenever i wanted, he agreed. I said i didn't mind the texting, as long as it wasn't infront of me and i made it clear how much cheating on me would hurt me. But lets face it,we don't live together so if he wanted to he could. He is an honest man, very blunt, and i know (and checked during our discussion) that if i asked him outright he would tell me. I did say that if he cheated on me, one time with one random girl, that i didn't want to know, i have been badly hurt before and can't face that again. I know that is almost a get out of jail free card, but that was all i could think of to protect myself.
SO everyone, after that not-so-brief passage, is there anything else i should do? How do I move on? Thankyou for reading!

I think that if you continue for the long term with him, you will have a lifetime of heartache. His father was a role model to him. He should not have to have his ego boosted by flirting with other girls. You are young, so you have time to find someone who is willing to give you what you want without worrying about time too much.
I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.

if it came down to it he probably wouldn't cheat
      Probably? That's comforting.
he is very emotionally distant, i know he cares and he does show it but quite rarely
He's emotionally distant from you, doesn't tell you how he feels about you, rarely shows how he feels about you......... yet spends time texting with 5 different girls, flirting, asking for sexual favors, trying to meet up with them?
I did say that if he cheated on me, one time with one random girl, that i didn't want to know, i have been badly hurt before and can't face that again.
A man that cheats on you is a man that doesn't love you. So what you're saying is that you would rather be in a relationship with a man who doesn't love you, would cheat on you, potentially bringing home STD's, disrespecting you, etc than to be without him?

My biggest concern here is not him. As jns said, he's going to provide heartache. I'm most concerned about you......your self esteem, your self worth. It seems that you don't think much of yourself. Why? Because from what I can tell you are giving, loving, and intelligent.

we both have the same outlook on life.
      Explain please.

      we have alot in common
      Such as?

Be prepared for an open relationship where both of you can see other people. All the signs says that is where he wants to be. Sooner or later, a girl is going to accept his sexual advances. Its just about probability. If you just prepare for it and accept that is the way the relationship will be, you will both have fun. Set up guildlines on what is acceptable, etc.

If you are unwilling to share him sexually, then break it off now. You will be living in limbo about whether he did or not and if he hasn't then, worrying when he will.

Remember, you guys are very young and have only been together one year. That may not be long enough time for your boyfriend to commit to an exclusive relationship.

Beautiful Disaster hit the nail on the head. Don't you think you deserve someone who is faithful, and someone who doesn't need or care whether other women find him attractive? If he truly loved you, he would only worry how YOU felt about him and whether you found him attractive. Yes, a person still wants to look good in general, but to be texting women in a sexual way is wrong and in my opinion is already unfaithful.

I say get out, quick. It's inevidable that he is going to hurt you. If he's unfaithful you will just turn the other cheek and pretend it's not happening? Have a little respect for yourself and stop letting this man walk all over you. You deserve so much more! You're a caring, sweet, and honest person who deserves to be treated like a princess. It breaks my heart to see girls stay with guys like that.
