    New friend and domestic abuse

I met a new friend, we've only been hanging out for about a month. I really like her a lot, we've really hit it off. However, I'm concerned for her safety. Today when I was over at her house, she showed me where her boyfriend took her straightner and burned her breast with it on purpose. I don't know exactly went down, but I guess he was trying to goof off and took the straightener and intentially burned her.

I tried not to freak out as much as I was freaking out inside when she told me. I did the initial, "What the ********?? Why the heck would he do that?" I didn't really know what else to say. I don't know her very well yet. But I've been worried. He shows signs of other anger issues too. What should I do? Would talking to her about it be crossing a line? If it were a best friend, I would talk to her heart-to-heart. I can't believe he burned her on purpose, it left a really nasty mark!!
I really don't know what to do!

Most guys don't really know how hot a hair straightener gets. He may have done it while fooling around but that doesn't make it any less painful. What else is he having anger issues on?

Since you two haven't been tight for long, trying to counsel her about worrying signs may drive a wedge into your friendship. Maybe a better way would to wait until you have been there for her at sometime in the future. Then she may be more receptive of the message.

It's nice that you are protective of your new friend.
I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.
    ...
Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?

From a speech by Patrick Henry on March 23, 1775 at St. John's Church, Richmond, Virginia

That's what I thought too, that if I freaked out or tried to 'counsel' her without even knowing her or her boyfriend very well, it would backfire. I want her to be able to trust and confide in me without fear that I'm going to come down with the hammer. I was definitely freaking out inside though!!!
