    Filing for Divorce

    Hello All,
I have finally decided that filing for divorce is my best option. My husband won't change.
He basically wants a wife who will give him kids, cook, clean, earn a check, and occasional sex.
He probably does love me, but I can't live with someone who has no compassion, or interest in changing.
    I tried for 5 years.
Any ways, I was lucky I was able to find a new job in the mid west, and away from him, because his temper was starting to scare me.
He thinks I will be back, and keeps texting me, etc..
Since we lived in DC, I have to file for divorce there.
Does anyone know how long the whole process can take?
We don't have property. I would just want my money, 401k, etc.
I am not looking to get anything from him. I just want out and move on with my life.
Since I am now involved with another person, will that have any effect on the divorce proceedings?
Will they ask me about it? My fear is if I have to reveal my situation, it could possibly endanger me...
Any advice please? I am worried and scared about this..

Laws vary a lot by state. Its probably worth speaking to an attorney, you really don't want to trust advice from the internet on this. If you are not trying to get money from him, it should be simple and I don't think you will need to give out any information - but talk to an attorney.

If you are "now" with someone else after you moved, then you entered that relationship after separation.

Hopefully that stands in any State. But, I certainly would do my best to ensure your ex does not find out if you think he has a temper, also just out of humanity, no one likes to know that their wife of only a few weeks/months has moved on.

      Best wishes.

Thanks, It's just a scary unknown process for me. I have started calling a few lawyers and will go meet them in the next few weeks.

Thanks, I have no intention of telling him about my situation. I still care for him, but divorce is the best option. I gave it 5 years plus 9 months of dating. I tried everything I could to get him to be more interested in our marriage. Nothing worked.
