Are you disagreeing with the description, how a part of society views it, or just with me (I understand that I'm a disagreeable cuss at times)?

Some people would view the unwelcomed invasion of an unconscious person's personal space (undefined?) for sexual gratification as sexual assault. Wikipedia defines sexual assault as" "Sexual assault is any involuntary sexual act in which a person is threatened, coerced, or forced to engage against their will, or any sexual touching of a person who has not consented." That may be from no specific law. The specific writing of a law will apply in its jurisdiction.

Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?

From a speech by Patrick Henry on March 23, 1775 at St. John's Church, Richmond, Virginia

How someone views something is subjective, so if you are a member of society and you view it that way, then technically "a part" of society views it that way.

I do not think the lady did anything illegal. I don't think it fits the description of sexual assault. And I don't think that the view that she did is representative of society. I think that the view most representative would be that the claim that those circumstances amount to assault is ridiculous.

How old is your girlfriend? And this guy...

Only in my opinion a teenager would act like this. And, with the hope that he wakes up and decides to have sex.

Sorry for my blunder earlier. To clarify, my girlfriend and the guy she had this specific encounter with are still talking and interested in each other.

In my experience I wanted to wait because girls in my school slept around at ages 14 on wards most where pregnant at the end of our last year exams and many have 3 children now. I was raised to wait until legal age and only with someone you cared for, I have old fashioned values but not to the point of having sex only when married, my boyfriend was really good he waited and didn't pressure me I waited 6 months in our relationship to have sex and I was 19, I pride myself on that because when I see girls from my school now they've got no education, no life and no boyfriend and some still live at home, I was raised to have children when married but I don't judge others for not being married and having kids I judge them on how they've behaved i.e sleeping around getting a bad name which is why I waited so long also for the fact a guy in my college made a bet he could "get in my pants" and thought I'd not know about it and I was 17 around this time so I dumped him. Sex is not just for the hell of it, peer pressure or anything else its because you want to or if not want to wait, if this guy wants to wait yet needs a release then I don't think that's a bad thing.

pluck77, I didn't respond earlier because I didn't want to appear to be responding you your barb. Now that you have calmed down, yes she could be on top of him and still be rubbing up against him, she would be "dry humping" him. That could be construed as a sexual assault upon his person in the same way that if he was on top of her doing the same thing. Then she could call it a sexual assault. This in no way negates or equates to rape or the more serious sexual assaults. However, it is sexual assault should he wish to press charges unless he was a complete willing partner to the actions.
That which we forget may as well never really happened.
