Well where do I began? I'm leaving for basic training in a month. Ill be there for six weeks than I go to tech school for four months than off to my first base. Yes I'm joining the military. Well a month ago I met this guy and he too is in the air force he is stationed at a local base around here. He has me so bad. He is what I have been looking for in a man he is what i want. He promised to write me everyday that i'm in tech school and basic. He likes me for me and last nite i finally stayed with him it was awesome bein held why you fall asleep. Everytime I moved or woke up he would wake up too and put his arm round me again and fall back alseep. Sounds great huh? IM LEAVING!!!!! i dunno what to do.. I really want him so bad becuz he is that guy that i have been lookin for, but I'm not guaranteed to come back here as my home base, and i'm not one to do long distance but I want him thats how bad he has me. any suggestions? -
I like to call myself a "professional military girlfriend." I can give you buckets of advice. My credentials: 4 years JROTC, 1 semester ROTC, close friends with multiple Soldiers, Marines, and Sailors, ex-fiancée of an enlisted Marine, and girlfriend of an officer in the Army.Well where do I began? Being in the military is tough on relationships. But you can't get out of your contract now (not easily. I've seen it done, but you don't have enough time) and you certainly don't want to wiggle out of a career you want because of a man. That's copping out. It's even harder to have a relationship with someone ELSE in the military (my boyfriend is the only reason I'm not commissioning after graduation. One is enough for me!) But it CAN be done. And it IS being done by MANY people right now.
I assume you're going active, not guard? Well, in Basic, you will have to communicate mostly by letter, with the occasional phone call, but you might not have much time to write him. I don't know much about AF Basic, but in the other branches, you have next to no time, except maybe Sundays. And you will probably be paying in pushups for all those letters he wants to send you. During your training school, you'll be able to call him every night if you want. In the enlisted ranks, all the "cool kids" have significant others. You're not "cool" unless you're calling your girlfriend/boyfriend every night.
The sad thing is that even if you get stationed on the same base as him (unlikely,) you can't live with him. Basically the only thing that would keep the two of you able to be physically close is marriage. (If you're both enlisted? Are you?) Single enlisted people can only live on base, as far as I know. Once you're married, you can live off base together. And also if you're married, I believe you have a 70% chance to be on the same base. As we all know, marriage is a serious thing, and in the military it gets treated very lightly. You will see people going through divorces ALL THE TIME. So, don't do it. Wait a while. Long distance relationships AREN'T SO BAD.
They just suck sometimes ^_^

Honor your committment you made ... what else can you do? If things are meant to be they will be.
You're practically a soldier now (I will say "thank you" in advance because it is not easy and there's so much respect that comes with being a military person) and I appreciate those that are in the service of this country. My heart goes out to them, their families and loved ones.
Keep your focus on what you must do now, and let all else fall into place.
I'll keep you in prayer, SimplyMe.
