my boyfriend versus my friend
So, my boyfriend and I have been dating for about a year now, and we sincerely love each other. I actually think that one day we will get married, and I am confident he feels the same. The issue that I have, is that one of my friends seems to be jealous of the relationship that I have with him. I am a full time university student, with job that is classified as a part time job because of all the wacky hours I do, but it feels full time for me. She thinks that I don't call her enough, or don't hang out with her enough, and all my time is spent with him. I don't see it that way. I see it as me going to work and school every day, and seeing him whenever I have the opportunity to. Its not like I never hang out with my friend any more, because I do. I am just really busy. I would be lucky to spend more than 2-3 hours a day at my own house (not including sleep time), due to school and work and everything else. My friend has 3 part time jobs that she hates, is not going to school, really doesn't know what she wants to do with her life, and he idea of exhaustion is going out to a club at night, waking up at noon so that she can be at one of her jobs for a couple of hours, go home and eat, and then go out again. I will admit that lately I have been wanting to spend more time with my boyfriend over her, because it just seems I can't do anything right for her anymore. Every time I see or talk to her she gets mad at me for anything and everything I do. I can't seem to do anything right for her. Also, she always seems to be running to me for help, and I love to help, its just she is always bringing me down. So my question is, is she just being really jealous and completely self centered and unfair, or despite my better judgment, should I try and find what time I have to call her, or see her and all that. -
It sounds like she is jealous of you. Did you spend a lot of time together before you and your boyfriend got together?
If I were you, I'd make an effort to have lunch and/or coffee with her once a week or so. Don't wait for her to call you, make the effort. (if you really do want to be her friend that is) And just see how things pan out. Maybe she justs wants you to make an effort to spend some time with her.
If after you try to spend a bit more time with her she is still being a little snot then I would just tell her that you are really busy with school and work and that you need to spend what little free time you have at home relaxing and resting up for school. If she doesn't understand then she's not a very good friend, in my opinion. -
Thanks you guys, I will try and make more of an effort, and I will also talk to her and explain what is going on with me, and maybe I will get some information on what is going on in her head. This is an issue that has been seriously bugging me for a while now, and I am just glad I have an idea of what to do about it. Thanks!
