I want something that requires thought, regardless of the price. Red roses don't do much for me since that is just following the trend, not really thinking about my preferences. A home made card will be more appreciated than a store bought one. Something different than the typical stuff like flowers, dinner and chocolate. OK, the chocolate is OK, but the other stuff are boring. Everybody does that. I want something different.

What do you want for Valentine's Day?
What do you want for Valentine's Day? Either from your partner, date, friend or yourself?

I am clearly a sexist when it comes to Valentine's Day because I have never believed that it is the woman's responsibility to buy me anything. I love celebrating both Valentine's Day and Sweetest Day . . . just two more days to show how much you care about your partner.
I agree with you DreamP, "mailing it in" by purchasing flowers or mundane chocolates is completely unacceptable. Just like any other gifting experience, it IS the thought that counts. The best gifts are ones that are meaningful to your partner; what does he or she value? Sometimes it is flowers sent to her office (where the experience has little to do with the flowers), but, for the most part, its a gift that conveys feelings that convey how much you love and cherish your partner. My favorite gift was to have slides of my SO as a little girl (very important to her) digitally imaged, repaired and retouched and then framed in customized frames. The entire project was way less in cost then flowers and the pictures and frames are still her favorites. All it takes is imagination."The only consistent feature of all of your dissatisfying relationships is you." Despair.com "Dysfunction" -
I'm with Effy. I don't like getting anything for Valentine's day (or my birthday or Christmas, from anyone).
I am not always the most creative when it comes to Valentine's stuff, but I just received a pair of designer denim jeans (they were quite pricey) that I ordered for my GF online. She does not know, and I know it does not sound like a romantic gift idea, but I think I will get "points" because she will know that I paid attention when she happened to mention that she really loved (and very much wanted) a specific kind of jeans that Olivia Palermo was wearing (GF loves her style). They are stylish and have some rips/tears on the front of the legs. I honestly am dying to get to Saturday because I know she is going to flip when she see's what she got even though jeans are generally not a romantic gift idea. But what's romantic is that I listened and paid careful attention to detail, right?
The GF will still get flowers and dinner though. We're also going to a Valentine's Day themed burlesque show on V-day (she does not know about the show either). I've never been to one (though I have seen sensually nude shows with the GF, like Zumanity by Cirque Du Soleil) and it's supposedly the best rated one in Los Angeles. I did research on the show and I'm not actually expecting anything mind blowing."Are you serious? You're bleeping THAT girl?" - jen1447Comment
