    A Man Needs Advice.

    Hello Ladies,

I need a little help with something.

I make around $200000 a year and I would like to buy a motorbike.
My wife does not want me too says it is too expensive, the payments are around 65 a week. I do not go out I do not drink i don't really have any hobbies to speak of. The bike is a gift to myself for having quit smoking for 7 months now. we can make the payments no problem, we have money in the bank are not in any financial difficulties whatsoever. So whats the deal.

    Hi there...

I think the main concern that your wife has is accidents. YOU may be a safe rider but that doesn't mean other people out there are taking the same precautions. I would suggest to think about it for a couple of weeks and sit with her and weight out the pro's and con's of getting this bike. If both of you decide to get it... I HIGHLY suggest that you take classes. If not then tell her you'll get a red porche instead :P lol jk

Congratulations for quitting smoking... i quit last year (cold turkey) so i know it's tough.

Have you ever thought about getting a new sports car in lieu of the bike?

I was very close to purchasing a sport bike at one point, and one close call with another motorist kept me from doing so. I'm glad it happened.

My G/F...well my fiance...I'm so used to calling her my G/F, ha....has expressed her worries about me getting a bike as well. It's only normal your S/O cares about your safety.

A car on the other hand, has 4 wheels at least a couple doors and some airbags.

Get a look at the 09 Corvettes. They are dirt cheap now. Good luck.

I think it's important to reward yourself after giving up smoking, it makes it feel all worth while as that is one of the hardest things in the world to do.

        I know, still trying.

The first thought that came to my mind was the same, "fear"...

My ex had 2 bikes, I actually bought him one.

I was forever concerned that with his "mates" he would check out that power and one day not return.

I also established that this new found hobby meant he was never home, chosing instead to be out for a ride with mates, every weekend, the whole weekend, and the whole day.

It's the case of a "boy with a new toy"...

I think you will find that if you sit her down and say, hey love, it's good to reward myself with something having given up smoking, but I guess your probably concerned, more than anything about my safety. It's okay, I'm not going to turn into a reckless driver or make this a passion more important than you.

You need to discuss it, i think that's more her fear than the $..

I hope your wife is saying that out of fear, because if she really is serious then I would say she has something seriously economic in mind (i.e. maybe she wants to quit her job, or has a big purchase in mind, maybe a travel get-a-way, or is worried about retirement, who knows).

Most of my friends who have motorcycles have had some sort of accident ranging from bad road rash to bike-car accidents resulting in significant hospital time. Motorcycles are definitely off my list, but then that's just me.

This doesn't sound like a money issue - unless despite your income you are in debt (it does happen).

The sports car suggestion sounded good.
