Your fiance is now between a rock and a hard place. He wants to please both you and his mother, you are the two most important women in his life and one way or the other both of you will be in his life for a long time. In that regard this falls heavily on him, it's unfortunate that his mother is so immature, many adults are. Just make sure that two of you present a united stand.

I agree the future mother in law is completely out of line and the parents taking their son off to work on him in private was inappropriate as well. However, you and your fiance need to come to an agreement about handling this because this type of behavior is unlikely to end with this incident. How the two of you handle this will set the tone for dealing with his parents for the future.

My fiance and I have spent so much time figuring out what to do with the situation...We finally agreed that he would go visit his mom alone and lay everything out for her. He told her how much stress she has put on what is supposed to be the happiest day of our lives. He told her how she hurt me as well. Most importantly, he told her that all those people are invited, and they will NOT be uninvited. He also said that she isnt the one that is paying for the catering so its really not her choice. And in the end, she said that she had over reacted, and she would be there no matter what, but she still seems out of sorts over the whole thing. I think it will take time for her to get back to normal. I just hate that she would put so much negativity on our wedding and have us stress like that...You guys all made me feel so much better knowing that I wasnt crazy!! Thank you so much for your support! Like you guys said, I told my fiance that if he gives into her now on a decision that should be ours, and ours alone, then we will be letting her control the rest of our lives in one way or another...He just stood by me 100% and I think his mom has to realize that he is going to have another woman in his life now, so she cant make his decisions for him.Comment

In laws are always an issue. My fiance is Egyptian & I am an Indian. His mother insisted we have an Egyptian wedding in Egypt & my family insisted that we get married in UAE by combining both Indian & Egyptian customs. She was also threatening that she would not come to the wedding even though my fiance is her only son. I went to Egypt and convinced her. It was really difficult to convince her.She was highly critical of me.
In the end after a truckload of drama she finally agreed to come here. There are moments in life which get etched in memory & there are those wonderful people who never leave your heart.Comment
