What about a promise ring instead? It will still let her know how much you love her without giving a commitment that you may not be sure of a few years from now. But maybe when you're 20 you will still feel the same way, and then maybe pop the question. You can be there for her emotionally without making such a big commitment. You grow so much in the next few years. But age really is just a number.

hmmm that does seem a bit too young...I'm 19 and engaged and others think that's too young! Well I'm going to stay engaged until I'm graduated from college then we will wed! I would say wait though at such a young age...At that age you really don't know what you want ://

I feel you should wait a little. If you to truly love eachother I would wait until you are both 18. Sometime who we think we are dramatically changes in time. Be happy that you just have eachother and are in love. If you are going to marry you have the rest of your lives to be together so don't rush things. Enjoy your youth and being together.

THat's totally untrue. Age is not just a number. Age tells a lot. You're not the same like when you were 11.
Getting engaged at 11 is way different from getting engaged when 18 and the latter is also a lot more different than when getting engaged at 30. Think about it, in all these 3 periods, you think and live differently.

I personally think it is too young. I'm 22 and not engaged. BUT i think I'm WAY too young to be. I agree different people are emotionally ready at different ages, some men taking WAY too long.
Anyway, my point. I think that you are not shaped as the person you are. To promise to marry someone you should be able to support them, and love is NOT enough. If you're in love, and sick, and poor. Then what? you need money, you need to have your life together. My bf wants to propose but i warned him not to until we have our lives together. So we're both studying for better carriers so we can support each other better, and know who we are as people. Be confident about our abilities and feel we are good enough for each other.

Trust me, what feels like unbreakable love, might not be so in 2 years time when the hormones you have that make you feel in love, will die off. (that goes for any age, once being with a new person who get the surge of "love" which is really a hormonal cocktail, and then once 2 years pass your body gets bored and has fully stopped production of the addictive hormones, leaving you with you and a person, instead of this "love" you feel. If after 2 years you feel madly in love- it's a deeper emotional love with who the person is, and that, i feel, marrying would not be rushed.)

I can't give you a black or white answer to your question, but I can offer you the advice I wish I would've received when I was 17 and engaged. After being with my fiance for 4 years, we both changed so much that near the end of our relationship we could barely stand the sight of each other. We had everything in common in the beginning and nothing in the end. If you really do love this girl, I'm sure you would want to make sure your relationship lasts. Stay committed to each other and if in several years you're still compatible and happy with your relationship, start planning for an engagement. If you want to physically show her how much you care and are committed to her, how about a promise ring?

I personally think it's ridiculous to even think about marriage until you have a profession/job and are able to support yourself. You're future spouse needs to do the same, otherwise, how do you propose to live? In the basement of mom's house? It confuses me and boggles the mind when I see kids right out of high school engaged or married. Sure, it's a romantic notion and popular movie and tv drama theme, but the truth is that you change SO much from HS graduation to your mid 20s. I'm no where NEAR the person I used to be as a teenager (honestly, if I could go back in time to meet myself I'd slap the mess out of me and tell me to get my life straight!). If I had gotten married to anyone I deemed suitable back then I'd most certainly be divorced from them now! I personally don't think anyone (and I mean anyone) is emotionally mature enough to take that kind of step forward until they've gotten more experience in life. That's just me though.

Omg... Listen to me.. I'm getting old!!! I've become my mother!!! D: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

It is hard to say when how young is too young to get engaged, because I was engaged to my husband when I was 18 and he was 24. Then we were engaged for two years and got married. We been married for 10 years now with 3 beautiful children.

I was actually engaged at the age of 16. Here I am almost 5 years later with the same man and we're still as in love as we were back when we first got together. We aren't married yet due to financial things but things will happen soon I hope.
