If he will be willing to meet you at a counselor's office and work things with you while you are both apart, do you think that would be possible? How much do you want to be back together? Weigh every angle as objective as possible. Our emotions can strongly affect our every decision but try to listen to what your rational mind/heart tells you.

You definitely need to reevaluate everything. There is no guarantee that it will not happen again should you come back. and when you decide to come back, you won't have that much support from your own family as they've warned you not to get back with him. I agree with everyone about him taking responsibility over his actions and apologize to your family as well.

Update on our situation:
So we are currently still seperated at this time....
We talk everyday and meet up whenever our schedules allows us to.
I believe in mix of our chaotic marriage, we kind of lost eachother.... making us forget how much we truly love eachother.
Emotional and physical abuse has taken it's toll and we really needed to just take a step back and reevaluate our situation.
As much as I miss him and want to just be with him, I know this time will only make us stonger in the end and make ourselves a better husband/wife to eachother when we do get back together....
We have started reading the book: 5 Love Languages-The Secret to make Love Last by Dr Gary Chapman
We read one chapter a day and the next day we discuss it together and have learned so much about eachothers love languages....
It's really opened our eyes.... I mean REALLY!!
In the end, this is another one of those hurdles in our lives to test us.... God put us on earth for eachother, that I am certain.... But it is up to us to stay together... and I am confident more than ever that we will make this work.
Thank you ladies for all your words of encouragement, this forum has helped me out so much.Comment

Just remember there are (two) people, in a relationship not one
You own yourself, not anyone else and communiation as JNS stated is highly important and compromise is a must or else it's one way and you will lose your identity let alone being abused, which is NOT on ....PUT A LITTLE 'LIKE' IN MY SOUL!Comment

Domestic violence. particularly violence directed from a man towards a woman inhibits my ability to read/think clearly. I am SO AGAINST it for any reason, at any level.
I am learning that there are some threads to which I should not reply.Comment
