My husband was sent overseas to work with the military. Since he isn't *in* the military though, there is no support at all for wives like me. Apparently we have earned the nickname "the forgotten wives" lol. I believe it...being the wife of a contractor is hard...and I still have 82 days to go of him being overseas.
It's weird and it's really opened my eyes up that's for sure. First, I didn't know that contractors did the same job as the military members and that they are just forgotten. A military member walks in and is treated with respect (they earned it), but here are just thousands of contractors in the same areas who are just forgotten. Their wives are forgotten. There are no support groups, suggestions on how to make it easier, no calls from coworkers or wives clubs. I've learned that this will not get easier by talking to a few people.
I'm so happy my husband likes his job though...I'll do anything for him to be happy where he works. Including this...but my question is...does anyone have any ideas on how to cope better and how to handle this better? He will be over there another 82 days at least, and it isn't easy. I feel like I'm failing when it comes to support when I whine about my allergies or ask him for help with something. I feel like I should never lecture him...does anyone have any suggestions? Are there books that I haven't found? Support groups? lol
While I don't want him to go overseas again after this, I know better. So I need to try to figure this out for both of us.
There would be so many women like you, once you have an abundance of members, someone will have to listen, and you can then stake your claim....
