how expensive are bcp's? that's def the kind of birth control im most comfortable with, but how expensive are they?

Depends on if its brand name or generic. You can always go to Planned Parenthood and see if you qualify for low cost pills.

Sometimes it also depends on the pharmacy you go to. Some only carry the generic of your pill and will most likely be less expensive than a name brand. If you have insurance I think the average is about $25 per pack. Whatever you normally pay for a copayment is what you will most likely be charged. But like Sharlene said... planned parenthood has a program designed to give you pills for no charge at all... all you need to do is fill out a low income form and they will not refuse you free pills. At least from my experience that's what has happened!!

Yea, but the thing is, I'm still covered under my dad's insurance. I'm in college on scholarship (no job= no income) but is there a way around using insurance coverage? I couldn't stand another morals talk from my papa

The kind I'm on is only $9/month generic, but you usually have to have a pelvic exam to get diagnosed with BCPs, and it costs a pretty penny to go to a doctor without insurance.
You should probably step up and be a "big girl." If it's really that big a deal, just tell your dad you have painful periods and you're taking the pill for that. No good father wants to keep his daughter suffering.

Another option that you have is going to the health clinic at your college. Most college health clinics will provide you with birth control pills and other forms, such as condoms. It wont cost you anything and they keep it all confidential. The only downside to the health clinics at colleges is that sometimes the brands are limited, for instance they might carry ortho tricyclen, but not the nuvaring. It just kinda depends. I completely understand about the morals speech that often parents have with their children. Believe me I was terrified to tell my mom that I was on birth control, but of course being the intuitive mother that she is, she already knew. So you could always talk to your dad and hopefully he will respect that you want to be safe and/or take control over you health as a woman. Oh one other note... you can still get the pills at planned parenthood for free even if you are on your parent's insurance. They have an option on the form regarding why you don't want to use your insurance and you could just check the confidentiality box as your reason. Hope this helps!!
