The good, the bad and the ugly on YAZ

    Hi ladies,

I have a pack of Yaz that my midwife gave me. I am waiting for my period before I take it. I have been doing a lot of research on it and I have heard great things about it and really awful things.

I want to know everything about it, before I start taking it. Because I had an awful experience with Mirena, (you can read all about it. I posted it earlier today.)

The great things I have heard were.... Breast get bigger, no moods, helps you sleep, lighter periods, no cramps...

The bad things.... blood clots, and death...

    Thanks ladies!!!

Heres my two cents I just started to take yaz about 5 days into it, I've done my research and sure read some prety horrific stories that made me rethink my decision on taking it. This is my first time on BC, so far I can say i havent had any sudden mood swings, or any of those horrible things (Thankgod!! I guess everyones bodys are different) However on the first day i had a terrible migraine. Sometimes I will feel nauseas but I find eating before it helps keep it down I think the only complaint I have about it is the break through bleeding, I understand your body has to take time to adjust and i did just start taking it but heck it sure is a pain in the butt ! So im crossing my fingers hoping that after my next period all will be well again and this BTB will dissapear. Oh, and my breasts did get fairly bigger and only 5 days into it which is strange and early but its definately a noticeable change haha.

If you decide to start taking it let me know how it goes !

      Yaz and my side effects

The positive:* Breast size increased (even though i didn't really need it to, it was nice)
*It really helped decrease my acne
      *Lost a little weight...not much
*It really helped my PMDD. I was so moody, i was all over the place. I would get severe cramps two weeks before my period and then when it actually started the cramps were even worse. I would cramp all the way down my legs front and back, making it difficult to walk. I would miss days of work each month.Within the first month I barely cramped on my period, it was AMAZING! My moods were balanced and my period was a whole lot lighter.
The Negative: *I started to notice memory loss towards the end of the first month and I had a hard time keeping focous. I did not connect it to yaz unitl the 6th month (I thought i was stressed about my upcoming wedding)
      * Slight stomache ache the first month but no big deal and soon went away.
*Thirstiness, not too uncommon for me, but i have never had my finger tips' split until I was on yaz.
      * 4th month vaginal dryness
*5th month I started brusing very easy, a common sign of liver problems.
*5th month slight headache at the base of my head
I am discontinuing my use of yaz. It has really helped my PMDD and acne, which i am very greatful for, however, the side effects are increasing and the memory loss, forgetfulness and loss of focus have made it hard to even type this. I am actually a little sad i can't take it anymore. Good Luck

I am a litle late probably, but I've been on Yaz since 2002 and absolutely love it. I had some spotting in between the first 4-5 months, and my breasts seemed to get a bit fuller (from a moderate C to a full C/small D) but other than that, have had no problems. I had horrible cramps before Yaz and had to take pain meds and now I maybe take Advil a day or two and I'm golden.

I did have some sex drive issues probably the first year, but since then I haven't really had any problems. Not sure if it might have been related to something other than the birth control, but that and a moderate weight gain (like 3-4 lbs) is the only real negatives.

I actually even do mine two packs at a time so I only have a period every 7th week and I love it. I don't even spot in between on that anymore. My gyno said I could move up to every 3rd pack if I wanted, so I am going to try that this cycle.

Blood clots seem to be an issue with a lot of these drugs. I may look into alternatives as I get a bit older (I'm 28), but right now, I'm a Yaz believer.
