    Stop depo

To all the women out there that are on Depo.....STOP taking it. I am a 35 year old with 3 children, who decided to go on Depo to releive major cramping in 2004. To be honest, I loved Depo. No cramping, no periods and no worries. Until I went in to get my shot in March of 2008. I was told that Depo causes bone loss and I needed to have a bone scan done. I thought, ok but I am fine. When my scan came back, I was called into the clinic to review my results. My Dr. walked in the door and said, "NO MORE DEPO!" After 4 years of being on Depo my bones have deterioated so bad that I have Osteoporosis. I have bones of a seventy-eighty year old women, and I am ONLY 35.
The reason for writing this is because 4 days ago I was getting out of a high profile truck and rolled my ankle and couldn't walk. So, my husband rushed me to the ER, x-rays were taken, then I learned my ankle was broken in 5 places and part of the bone was shattered. A hour and a half surgery took the surgen three and a half hours because it was so bad. Now I am sitting here with four screws, three pins, a metal plate in my ankle and my recovery time could take up to four months or longer I have no insurance and now can't work.
I know I am not the only one and would love to see a Class Action Law Suit on this. If anyone can help me I would very much appreciate it. You can contact me by e-mail at missi_hoferyahoo.com

That's horrible missi and must have come as a huge shock to you, I am so sorry.

If there was a "warning" about Depo pertaining to bone loss, then there's not much you can do, much like us smokers, we are told of all the things that can happen but we keep smoking.

Everything chemical we use really, is harming us, shampoo, hair dye, underarm deoderant, and I for one know that I should change over to herbal in that regard but I don't.

Can you start taking loads of calcium? Or bone loss means, bone loss it is irreversable?

I totally agree with you, I personally don't take depo because I know how bad it is. A friend of mine does take it, for years now, and I have told her repeatedly to get off it. Last night she was telling me she was having severe abdominal pain and I told her she needs to go to the ER right away, when she did they said she had an ovarian cyst that had ruptured. I wouldn't be surprised if it was because of the depo, if it creates rapid bone loss what else does it do? The stuff is horrible I don't know why it is even on the market. I am sorry you are experiencing the horrible effects and wish you the best of luck. I hope you can file some kind of law suit and hopefully depo will be no more.

I've heard some scary things about Depo too. I'm so sorry to hear what it has done to you. Personally, I'm getting over a horrible ordeal with Yaz. So I sort of know how you feel! Good luck to you in healing.

Just to let you know, they have all those warnings about bone loss and other side effects on the prescription. It's just another risk that some people may get and others may not.
