Birth Control = No Sex Drive

I've been married for the past 2 years, Just got back from a 4 month deployment to Iraq. And since I've been back it's like my husband has to talk me into having sex. I don't know why, I thought it was from just being back and not being in the right state of mind for the past couple of months. Never really thought of it in Iraq either. But the other day was my last pill of the pack and the past couple of days I can't stop thinking about wanting to have sex. Well I can, but I'm actually thinking of it rather than not at all. So I was wondering if the pills have any effect of my sex drive. I've been on birth control ever since I was 14(to make my periods regular) and never really thought about it until my husband asked me why do I never want sex. This may sound like a bunch of rambling, but any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Big, underlined, bold answer: YES the pill can affect your sex drive! They affect each person differently, so your best friend or sister could be taking the same pill for the same amount of time and still be hot and heavy, but it could make you forget the word sex exists.
Next time you go in to see your gyno, ask him/her about this. S/he might be able to find you a different, lower-dosed pill that might not do this to you. There are other options for contraception as well, though I'm not sure if they'll regulate your period like you want.
    Good luck!

I swear that's how the pill works! You can't get pregnant if you never want to have sex. And no one wants to have sex with you when you're miserable to be around. haha

That's how the pill was for me. I went off it and never felt better. And my periods actually got better. happier, more energy, more sex drive...etc.

You never know, you may not need the pill to regulate you anymore. If your husband and you are open to other methods, then you may consider going off the pill for 6 months just to see how you feel.

Talk to your doc or better yet, the local family planning clinic. A diaphram can be very effective and easy to use, especially if you have periods of time with no sex. Usually an IUD (Non Hormone type) is easy if you've had a baby but some women who haven't can use them quite effectively. There are other options. A county clinic or family planning clinic isn't as likely to have financial incentives to encourage you to use specific products as a doctor may be.

My GP actually told me to ask my GYN for an older birth control. I am having the same problems: dryness, no sex drive, and no desire for sex! Sad, when you're a newly wed! So I'm going to my GYN monday to get something else. Hopefully this works!

I am 18 years old and I'm going through the same thing. I started taking the pill (Ortho Tri-Cylen Lo) about a year ago and ever since then, I have had virtually NO sex drive whatsoever. I've been with my boyfriend for almost 2 years and he is getting really frustrated with himself. He feels like I'm not attracted to him anymore and that is not true at all. I love him so much and it's so hard to not want to have sex with him. Before we started having intercourse, I was turned on all the time. I always wanted to have sex but I didn't want to do it without being on the pill. When we first started having sex, I loved it and wanted to do it every day. Now he wonders why I never want to. He says I have the sex drive of an 80 year old woman...and he's right. I'm going to go to the gyno as soon as I can. This is really making me depressed. :'(

Not all pills will do it to all people. When finding the correct birth control pill you may have to try out 5 or 6 of them. I've taken 7 over the past 11 years and narrowed down which ones are more likely to give me problems. My husband has a vasectomy but I still take seasonique to control my periods, stop acne, and I sleep better than when my hormones are going through changes. I have extremely severe insomnia. It is entirely possible I would die from sleep deprivation without meds and no one knows why so I do anything that will help. Worst 2 pills for me were ortho tricyclen lo and lybrel. Break through bleeding, cramps, mood swings, no sex drive, etc... Lybrel also made my breast size increase significantly and then after stopping it went back down a little so now I have large saggy breasts when I used to be a firm small B. Yasmin worked ok for awhile but did lower my sex drive a bit and caused dryness. Nuvarings were better but too big for me so they rubbed and irritated things. Then I started having chills after exercise. I can't remember the name of the rest that went badly. When I have the right pill though I am so much happier on birth control than off of it. My body can't seem to do anything right when left to itself.
